Hey guys - just found this thread - has anyone tried the Elling KB 350 yet?

@Pecheur Anglais - did you get to try the one in Anglesey? I'd be interested in what you thought of it!

Although the Boatworld guy said he would get in touch with the guy on Anglesey with one for me to possibly try, I heard nothing more. That, combined with arguments from experienced folk on here about performance being exaggerated put me off tbh.
Looked a really nice boat at the boat show, but decided it is not the boat for me.

As others have hinted 30 mph with a 6 hp is so implausible as to be called an outright lie.

30 mph in that with any size of engine would be invigorating to say the least.

My Zodiac 310 with a 9.9 will do around 15 — 20 mph in perfect conditions.

I'm sure there is something cheaper and at least as good to be found, and with a more plausible set of performance claims.

Elling 350 KB

I have asked Elling to confirm the speed they have achieved with the Elling 350KB and had the following back today.
The motors of all two cycles, the weight of 1 person is 80 kg.
6hp - 25 km / h
10hp - 35 km / h
18hp - 45 km / h

I have requested info with 4 stroke outboards and when I have I will post again.
Thanks

Elling KB 350 ( From a Boatworld customer who owns one)

I am a 20stone + 60year old man with an arthritic right hand side hip so getting into a inflatable can be interesting

So I needed a inflatable that would carry a lot of weight plus fairly easy to inflate

I spend about 3-4 months on the internet looking around

Then a saw Boat world advertisement so I cam along to Chesterfield to have a look and when I was in your shop you had a Elling KB 350 on display

I started asking questions kg capacity 800kg with 500mm plus dia sides

Even though the Elling was twice the price a went for it and bought the boat frame 6hp outboard the full kit

I then put it in the water at Angelsey it was just the what I wanted I could sit on the side and spin my legs round and slide onto the seat no issues with it tilting or nearly tipping over I was in no

Drama’s brill

Then I loaded 3 grand children and the wife and off we went the boat is so stable in the water it feels safe good fun the 6hp engine uses about 2-3ltrs of fuel all day

It really is has good as it gets

I have fitted wheels and I can pull it in and out of the sea on my own no problem

Cheers Boatworld

Steve and all the Grand Children roll on next summer

Thanks for updating those speeds vs HP figures Boatworld. They are much more realistic with, for example, the 6hp making 13.5kts which compares give or take a bit with The Gurnard on here who achieves 15kts with a 6HP on his small Frib one-up.

I think the KB350 looks very interesting and the initial over ambitious speed claims were my main concern. I do hope someone on here buys one so we can have feedback from a forum member.

It has to be said your happy customer describes an experience that would be found with most air floor inflatables around 3.5m.

Most English customers will think in mph and the keener boaty types may think in knots.

A mile is 1.609 km.

A nautical mile is "a mile + VAT" or about 1.2 miles.

25 kmh = 15 mph which is 12.5 kts
35 kmh = 21.75 mph which is 18 kts
45 kmh = 28 mph which is 23.33 kts

1.15 nautical miles to the statute mile.

I was sticking with the accuracy to 2 decimal places approach...

1.2 miles expressed to 1 decimal place rounding in the usually accepted way.

1.15 miles expressed to 2 decimal places.

My main point was that the earlier post expressing boat speeds in KMH was using a comparatively small unit (kilometre) to produce a high "per hour" figure.

As very few people in the UK think in kmh, especially for boats I felt it needed highlighting.

Would love to use 2 decimal places for VAT if that would get it back down from 20% to 15%
