Trip up the Hamble Late September 2020
Like many I hope this weekend we benefitted from the lovely weather and had a trip up the River Hamble in the Honwave.

Here is a quick video I made while sitting next to the River. I hope to post a better video of the trip later

We have found a very nice place to set up and launch from which is the Public Hard at Hamble Le Rice. Cost is £6 to launch but can never seem to find anyone to pay and you can park your car in the car Park right next to the hard for £10 for 24 hours. You can also drive onto the Hard to unload etc. It is a very goog surface.

The lower Parts of the Hamble are very different from the Upper Parts of the River.

As you pass under the Main Road Bridge over the Hamble it gets a lot quieter after about a 100 m and there is a lovely Place called Upper Hamble Country Park with a lovely Jetty to moor to as we were there on a Monday it was very empty and peaceful

Here is one I put together which nicely shows the Jetty and indeed the upper reaches of the river The River gets very nice from this point upwards

This is the part of the river as you take the Right Hand fork heading to the pub called the Horse and Jockey. There was a nice place to stop but we turned round and headed back

This is the last Video of the last and uppermost parts of the Hamble Right fork just prior to reaching the pub. You can clearly see the huge difference from the start of the River to this upper part

The River Hamble has an interesting high water and it seems as though high water or slack water lasts for an hour or so

All in all a lovely day with excellent tide times and lovely weather. The camp site/caravan site we stayed at is called Sunny Dale Farm and is only 4 miles from Hamble Le Rice.

If the engine had not have been misfiring it would have been a perfect day but to be honest it did not worry me much as it just kept going. Hopefully I now have that sorted but would like to understand it better

Any Questions about the trip please ask and I will try to answer them

That looks very nice and peaceful. Thanks for posting.

We live in Hamble at weekends and holidays and we've never ventured up any further than Mercury Yacht Harbour but now that's on our to do list. Also on our list is a trip up the Beaulieu river which is supposedly very beautiful too.

The high tide you mentioned is because Southampton Water has what are called double high tides, though in reality they are just extended periods of high water. Something to do with the IOW I believe, but I could be wrong.

I think the upper Hamble is much nicer than the lower part. Mind you if looking at nice boats is your thing then the Lower river is certainly the place to visit.

It actually took very little time for the whole trip. I would estimate 6 hours including a 1-1.5 hour lunch spot. Also never wnt over about 4 knots

Looks a nice day... always interesting to see images/video of an outing.

Haven't been that way since younger days. I must admit we don't spend too much time in estuaries more regarding them as a start or finish point for a sea trip. Mind you any trip now for us in 2020 would at least be getting to the water.

From the launch point you can easily turn right and go out into the solent and if feeling brave over to the Isle of Wight. Misus SR did not fancy that idea or indeed did the dog
