It had occurred to me that they may well already be full from an abortive previous day out in the autumn.

I'd try and avoid transporting large quantities but I certainly wouldn't bring it to anyone's attention.

Imo, it’s far more dangerous to transport cans with dregs rather than full cans with a little expansion room. Especially in warm weather. It’s the vapour that goes bang!

Fully agree.

Also agree better to carry tanks empty then fill close to launch point. May bw worth paying the extra 1-2ppl at local independent than argue tecinical point at AsdTesBurySon v. certified tank v. "can".

Wonder what view OP has now after some debate / advice

Privately, you can legally carry 240L of Petrol, provided it is stored within approved containers, and no, you do not need to display a diamond.

Personally, I would transport the tanks empty and fill up at your destination ..........

Fuel

As some of you had worked out I'd not gone completely crazy and thought I'd add even more weight to the car than was already taken up with boat gear, suitcases, people etc. Both tanks were filled from a previous launch where the 3 of us on board had a way to go that was aborted 10mins in.

Good news is I took the opportunity to launch yesterday in Poole as the weather was too good to not take advantage of, so I'm now down to 1 full tank and about 5 litres in the second. Did a round trip to Lulworth that burned off most of the first tank.

Good to know it was never a requirement though. Thanks all.
