Sib trailering -Doing it wrong?

Hello all.

I modified my trailer with for trumpet rolls to make it compatible with my SIB. But now I read in the following thread: http://www.rib.net/forum/f50/sib-tra...ae2-78095.html that rollers are not right when trailering an sib.

Can trailering the boat as below damage the boat? I ask this because I just opened a thread that I can attach and remove the seat of my boat with too much ease. Is it possible that I have distorted the boat and this will be the reason why the seat became looser after one year of use?

Thanks!

The message wont let me edit it.

There is not a lot of weigt on the fron rollers. I can lift the boat with ease of them.

I am just afraid that the tubes are pushed together in some sort of way when trailering like this.

Ideally should be a bunked trailer spreading the weight equally rather than each wheel compressing into the toob. if you travel with it without the engine on then it shouldn't be to much of an issue. with the engine on however its likely to damage the tube .

I dont think you'll damage the boat if its properly inflated those rollers look fairly chunky and dont appear to be depressing the tube unduly
Dont think id be worrying about it

I think I'd maybe lop a bit of the bottom of the roller uprights. Doesn't look like you've got a lot of ground clearance.

If you have a transom pad to support the engine and don't carry a lot of weight in the boat it should be fine if it were me I would put foam around the rollers to save chafe on the fabric and fit more rollers you need to cut the uprights down a bit too.
Tyrone snell trailers here in the UK have multi roller trailers they have built for the RNLI

I have my futura on one of these: Kalf Trailers - fabrikant van boottrailers, strandkarren, trolleys en botenbokken I also added a 3rd row of rollers (trumpets) to spread the load. They are popular in Holland for Futuras. I have an old Zodiac manual which shows this style trailering a Futura.

How do you find the trailer performs compared to one with bunks?

Off the top of my head I can think of;

Pros:
Easy to winch the boat on and off the trailer because the trumpets rotate.
Avoids abrasion between the tubes and a bunk (sand/grit etc)

Cons:
Weight of the tubes is not distributed over two large bunks
Trumpets are relatively high cost @ €75 each

I bought the Futura in Holland and I was not satisfied with the trailer, so I took the rig to a dedicated trailer reseller in Lelystad to asses the replacement options - the dealer contacted Kalf and Pega and both recommended the trumpet style of support for a Futura. I went with Kalf because they could deliver next day.

Thanks. I have seen similar but with more support, like this:

Inflatable boat trailer - Leroni Trailers

I wonder what Zodiac recommends for their various inflatable boats, both with and without the speed tubes.

Thank you all for the replys and links provided. Very kind!

I will search for the transom pads like on the Kalf trailer below. I think it will support the weight of the engine much better than the center roller I have now. The engine is 55 kg. Much more than the 25 of the Suzuki DF6 I had last season.

On the Kalf trailer is see the trumpets are horizontal. I placed them obliquely (hope this is the right word) so the boat centers easy. Should horizontal supports the weight better?

@ _monkey you are from the UK and bought all-in Holland? Why is this? (I am from Holland 😉 )

Intuitively, that looks better because it has lots more touch points to spread the load and around the same price as mine.

Angle of the trumpets: I think they will naturally find the right place once the tubes are loaded on them. The trumpets on my trailer lie flat when the boat is off.

Yes, I am UK based but we have been taking holidays in Holland and I have bought tents (De Waard / Karstan) from Marktplaats, so it made sense to look for a Futura there. Futuras don't appear to be popular in the UK and it can be quicker to get to parts of Holland than it is to get to some parts of the UK if you are based in the South East.

Plus, I have young children who cycle and you can't beat Holland for cycling!

does no one use flat deck trailers?

I'm in the market for a trailer for my 4.5M sib and I was thinking a flat deck trailer would be perfect

Ya I dont mind deflating the keel, right now I have the boat setup on the transom wheels in my cargo trailer lol.

So no reason I cant use a flat deck as long as I deflate the keel then..

If it suits you go for it the set up you have now works why reinvent the wheel I guess you get the trailer close to the water then wheel the boat in, lots of guys here have a boat trailer and don't get it wet the same a you save your hard earned go with what you have in my opinion
