SIB oars

The 5ft oars on my 4m sib are fine for short distances but I would struggle to cover a larger distance after an engine failure. Would a pair of longer oars help with this? I've seen some 7ft long. Thanks for any help

Sibs are not good to row any great distance. If your going against a tide and / or the wind your screwed. Alright on nice days for a paddle around though.

This thread from almost 2yrs ago may be of interest. In it I doubted the need for long oars... in fact grumbled about rowing a SIB far at all. But good on SteveM for kitting his SIB out to suit his need to row from time to time. He bought 6ft 5in oars.

By chance last year on holiday there were wonderful shallow areas with wildlife interest where gently rowing would have been my choice. My crew never seemed to get the hang of paddles!

My Aerotec has its standard telescopic paddles which are rubbish. I will either replace them with longer wooden paddles or oars.

Thanks Fenlander. That is really useful. May try the 7ft Alu ones and cut a bit off if necessary.
