It is an expensive village, theres no denying that, but I don't think that's the only reason that all those cottages are holiday lets. There is still plenty of locals, which is one of the reasons I enjoy going there. Those little cottages would be very difficult to live in, tiny rooms, no parking, lath and plaster walls between the adjoining property, so no privacy, no garden so no oil heating or ashp - storage heaters for heating.... . Fun for a holiday, but you can buy a 4 bedroom detached two streets back from the front for the same as a 2 up, 2 down cottage round the harbour.

I lived in Cornwall for 19 years and my 3 children grew up there. 2 still live and work there (decent jobs) but will never be able to buy anything until their old man, me, pegs it.
It is one of those conundrums that I don't think will ever be solved without government or local council intervention.
Affordable starter houses built for locals, with a covenant stating that they can only ever be sold to locals who work within the local area and can't be rented out as holiday let's. Once on the housing ladder, people can then move up as and when they wish.
I'm not normally one for social intervention by government, be it national or local. However, I think certain areas need it.
