Think that's something only you can tell, does it still reach the same speed at the same rpm? Does it vibrate or shake the outboard?

I have done the same with my outboard. If it has an aluminium propeller then I would just use a metal file on the leading edge until its smooth and rounded off. If the prop actually lost a significant chink or was badly bent then I would probably bin it.

With all due respect to Simon you really should get it against a block of wood and hammer out any imperfections.... if you have to use a file only a tiny amount and certainly not on damage that is sufficient to cause vibration.

Put a pic and we'll advise better but you may need to have it repaired.

As a matter of interest I always carry a spare prop and a little kit of tools to do the change for such circumstances.

Propellors are fairly robust and will take a certain amount of scratching and battering but if there are bits missing, or the blades are net out of shape, or there are serious burrs on the edges that is a problem.

It doesn't hurt to have two, if you find the new one feels and performs like the one old one (after hitting bottom) you know you've got a good spare, or possibly sell the newest one (as new). If the vibration you may of felt with the damaged one isn't pressent with the new you should be able to find a repairer to fix it. Over this side of the pond I use solas props who seem to be able to retune some pretty awful dinged up props.

I can recommend castle marine for repairs - nothing to do with them, just a very happy customer.
