Noob, have I bought a SIB or a RIb ?

I only joined rib.net couple days ago and am a novice.
I can just see some of you seasoned boat owners cringing now
I very recently bought "a boat" from a friend who was emigrating and needed help...
I like abit of diving and fishing, so I helped us both.
Ok here's the tricky bit, I bought the boat, trailer, Suzuki 25hp engine and loads of other gear I haven't got a clue what it all is or does, apart from a few boat rods..
Now it says it's a Zodiac on the actual sides, and after some research was told it's a 14' Zodiac Classic Mark 2, with aluminium floors.
Now can some of you very well versed sib/rib owners tell me what I've bought please.
I don't want to be insulting the boat by wrongly calling, sib or rib.
Now it's only for my own and of course the insurances companies need to know.
Sib or rib I know I'm going to have some fun with my family.
I don't mind asking these questions on here, better look stupid here than waffling outside
Thanks in anticipation.

Well guys thanks for clearing that up for me.
Can anyone tell me where I could buy the owners manual ?
I need to find out the correct inflatable pressures etc, and also try and find out what is a good electric pump to buy.
I'm so glad I found rib.net, my backgrounds in aviation, so I need to learn as much as possible.
I'm booked on a Powerboat level 2 course at the Tees Barrage neat Stockton 4/5 Sept, so looking forward to that.

It should say on your valves dude. The keel tubes are high pressure at 0.8 And your rib tubes are low pressure at 0.25. If you purchase a quality 12v pump like a bravo manometer you can set to auto cut-off using the dial, they are pricey but worth it as it’ll inlflate the whole thing from flat to full in 15mins.

Thanks maverick58,
I'll pop into the garage and have a look at the valves.
I'll search the Internet to find a pump also.
Thanks for help guys

You have done well for a first SIB Pilgrim. That Mk.2 Classic is a well regarded and expensive SIB new. What sort of Suzuki is it... modern 4-stroke or older 2-stroke?

Do you have any experience on the water/sea and have you any thoughts where to start off launching from?

Hi Fenlander,
It's a 2 Stoke older model,
I've just been to Seaham Harbour Marina and paid for a 12 months slipway pass, get a key for the security gates and have 24/7 access, which I thought was ok,
I live in a place called Stokesley, 40 mins North of Whitby, about 12 miles from the East coast.
I had a drive round the other day and looked at Skinningrove, Whitby, Saltburn, Staithes, Seaham, Redcar.
They seem to all have pros and cons.
My boating experience is many years ago, I was in the RN as a young man, then the Army based at Hereford.
My profession for many years is in aviation, and I'm surprised how much flying is similar to boating etc, weather, rules, laws, winds etc.
I'm trying to get as much info as possible from people like you on here who have a lot to give.

Yep it's a great forum for information. From the expedition type sibbers like The Gurnard to daily use leisure sibbers like myself and everything in between. Despite being on and off the water for decades in many different craft I was fairly new to seagoing sibbing when I joined here around ten years ago so have gained massively from the advice of others over the years. And hence try and give back based on my experiences... which is now of 9 SIBS and 9 SIB OBs in that time.

I know all that area very well dived and boated for years, Whitby is a great place to start I know you have to pay for the slip in the car park near the coop but it's worth it. First it into the river a good slipway about 3 hours each side of high water you can safely use it drops off into mud at the bottom so beware its a good mile to sea gives you plenty of time to get your boat sorted and trialed before hitting the open sea. For fishing try robin hoods bay make sure you go around the Cardinal bouy marking the reef ,gets a bit rough over it especially in a ground swell, go all the way until robin hoods bay starts go about 1/2 a mile out onto the 20 m shelf, there use to be wrecked trawler on the rocks as a maker not sure if it's still there, fish on a flood tide it goes dead on the ebb. When the vis is good you can snorkel in salt wick bay good for crab and lobby's. The wheedale hotel has a live web cam out to sea helpful to see how rough it is

Wow guys I'm enjoying all this info.
I'm sat here now infront of the fire with a nice glass of rum.
Can you pay per launch at Whitby do you know, or is it yearly?
It cost £110 for slipway use for 12 months at Seaham the other day, which I thought was quiet good.

Occasionally the older stainless steel Zodiac pressure gauges come on the market via eBay. It's pretty critical you keep on top of tube pressures as that's what holds the whole boat together with the stringers in place either side of your HD floor (aluminium) to avoid hull flexing.

Tubes were 240 millibars and the keel was 220 millibars. The Apollo foot pumps are good and you should be carrying on board as a matter of course. Sea temperatures and the boat left in the sun will fluctuate pressures, etc.

Lastly, if boat is new to you, then think about replacing rubber diaphragms on the inflating valves. They leak with age. Diaphragm here: Zodiac Delrin Valve Diaphragm Z2195 and valve cap and valve cap and insert seal here: Zodiac Delrin Valve Cap and Insert Gaskets Z2212 & Z2213

I'm assuming this is the older nickel plated delrin valves?

Hi, and welcome
Sounds like a great sib you have there, an outfit most members would take a few years to build up to, hope you will be taking a friend or two on your first outing as an extra pair of hands can be a life saver on launch and recovery until you get the knack of it, even better if you can persuade a net member to join you,as I found when you start, things go wrong and you learn and gain experience and net members are always on hand to advise you on the correct process, the important bit is to always have and use your safety equipment, killcord, life jacket, and a knife safely stored to cut rope if your prop gets tangled,
Enjoy the rest of the summer, and have a blast
