Me boat went down on me

I have not even been in the water yet.
Pumped it up, left over night and it went down on me.
Pumped it up again because I thought as it was new it may stretch or something like that.

But no it went down again.

That's almost unknown on a new SIB of any brand. Gutting.

Is that the only place it leaks? What pressure is that set to?

It only seems to be that tube.

I pumped it up to .25 what it says on the valve.

I have emailed them.

Hi Bobby, very frustrating especially as you have spent time fitting your transom wheels.
I wouldn't be too concerned about Boatworld sending out a replacement, but it is a pita!

Hi Steve

Hallam has been quite good and helpful pre sale.
I don't see any reason that will not continue.
It's such a shame though.
We had it all planned out this week as it is nice weather.

Never mind eh.

I asked about pressure as I wondered if it had been left in the sun over last few days while pumped to the max, being black this is more of an issue. Perhaps it has a PRV though?

It was in the sun for a little while but not long.
It should be able to cope with it, it has Halkey Roberts valves prv.

Oh well with PRVs over pressure can be ruled out.

Funnily enough - not necessarily. I've seen brand new tubes from a quality UK manufacturer blow out on first inflation when left in the sun - PRVs fitted and correct pressure too. The tubes actually blew a seam - so the PRV was either faulty or the glue work wasn't right. At the time there had been a issue at the Bostik plant and there WAS some dodgy product in circulation. Those leaks might just be down to poor construction?

Willk

That sounds rough , blowing out.

It was only in the sun a short time, my honwave had been left on the beach for months before I got it and it was ok.

I got a reply from Hallam at boatworld.
I rang around 9am, by 4 pm I had a return label sent to me and it is being collected tomorrow. He also said a 48hr turn around, repair or replace.
I call that excellent customer service, I will be interested to hear what he has to say when he gets the boat back.

I know, I was trying not to shine the torch too far down the rabbit hole.

Personal opinion Bobbity... I would not accept any repair on glued seam failure with a new boat.

So you would not trust a repair?

What do you think would be wrong?

It might be handy info later on for me.
Thanks

Well from your images it looks as if you have a leak from multiple seam locations. To take that apart, clean up and re/glue is quite involved and not nearly so easy to get right as gluing the boat from new in the factory. Also I’d worry there could be a lack of care elsewhere on the construction which might reveal itself at some point in the future… if it’s a “Friday” boat for example.

Yes you're right it was in more than one place. I have a video but I can't put it on here.

You made some good points there. I will have another chat with him when he gets the boat back.

I tend to agree about accepting a repair. It may be that it was just that part of the seam that wasn't glued properly, or as Willk has eluded too it could be a bad batch of glue.

I have to wait for Hallam to get the boat have a look and offer a solution.

If what you say agrees with what he thinks then I will get a new boat. If not I will have to have more of a conversation with him.

Thanks for all your comments.

I have a Boatworld (not nearly as posh as yours ), and as I don't live that far from them I tend to go up there in person when I buy stuff. I would find it hard to imagine they won't do whatever it needs to sort out, they've always come across very cool. My boat was an ex display model they'd been using at exhibitions and has been mint.

I alo have the Vevor wheels and they have been fine for the price. Recommend buying some spare pins to carry with you on the boat (I have dropped and lost several returning to slipways), and deburring the aluminium transom fittings with a file or something is a good shout, mine were a bit rough.

Thanks for the tips.
I'm sure it will all be fine, I am really just a bit frustrated as we have all this nice weather at the moment.
Hallam seems a great guy, I am confident he will look after me.

Hi Steve
They took it back, tried to repair and decided to replace it with a new one.
Excellent customer service.

I've been out of action having prostate op. So the boat should be here in a few days.

I need another week to recover, then I can go bobbing about on the water.
