What bit about it makes it “too good to be true” in your eyes?

It’s still got 5 days to run and multiple people bidding on it

Outboard looks minty but that is 99% sure to be old and sprayed up with new logos... like 45yrs old perhaps??

And seller has sold half a dozen small boats/outboards etc over the past year in the old/very cheap end of the market so bit of a dealer type rather than straightforward owner.

Nothing on eBay that is open to bidding is going to be a 'good buy' at present - check the 'SIB's spotted...' topic for where prices have been and where they are now in this crazy market.

Same old advice, find a outfit on FBMP, Gumtree, local ads, papers, boat yards, word of mouth etc, etc or jump in quick with an eBay ad by contacting them immediately and going to view waving cash for a sale 'off eBay' and hopefully beat all the other desperate punters.

That engine does look like it's been painted. There are lots of marks under the paint. Could be in great nick but could be shot.

First clue it's really old is it's decades since any mainstream maker had an above exhaust prop on a 20hp.

And yep with a second look that is 100% a paint job inc under the hood in places too I reckon.

I'd not buy the OB at any price.

That outboard is a hound, bordering on antique! I’ll be following this to see what it goes for.

My Cousin has a 4 year old 3.2 honwave literally used once plus a merc 15 needs a paint but runs well, I’ve been nagging him to sell - sellers market !!

Education time Fenlander "an above the exhaust prop" - is the give away being the cone on the prop?

Yes because pretty well every 8hp plus motor in recent times... certainly 10hp plus has the thro' hub exhaust. The above exhaust prop is now usually only on the small motors.

From the research I've been doing about my new purchase, I would say that motor is early 70's at best.
So points and magneto with a weedy spark meaning it will oil the plugs all the time.
The later ones with cdi ignition were far superior apparently.
Well, I'm hoping that's the case anyhow. Find out tomorrow when I go and pick it up.
