I bit the bullet

Yup, the deal is done...

One Honwave T38 IE2 with 20HP Honda and transom wheels is winging it's way to me via Ely Boat Chandlers... all-in, a smidge over £3450 which is by far the best deal I could find out there...

Eagerly awaiting delivery so we can, er, stare at it as the trees uproot around us... and wait for a sunny, calm, winter's day to run that new engine in.

I am hoping to make some form of bow canopy out of nylon (tent material) or canvas with plastic piping to make the hoop... has anyone done this or is there anything commercially available?

Nice one

I think you'll have to get something made up by a cover maker.

Well done Stig... that should be a good outfit... and it's just in time to set up in the front room for Christmas entertainment.

There are some good images on here of the DIY dodgers Gurnard and others have made... here is one... http://www.rib.net/forum/f50/making-...ver-67877.html

Enjoy your new boat Stigomery. I know a few owners of that model and they are all very happy with their boats

The Honwave is ideal to make a spray dodger for.. because the shape of the rubbing strip allows small plastic hooks to grip its underside. If you PM a member on this site called Biggy.. Im sure he will tell you where he got the clips from. (The boat in the photos is his.) I believe he used a tent pole to form his bow shape ..same as in the link Fenlander posted. He also got a Honda Logo from somewhere ..to make it look a proper job.

The cover is great for holding loose objects in the boat.. ideal for carrying full camping gear on long expeditions in rough seas ... It also gives a front passenger a little shelter from wind and blown spray. However ..you will find the boat is a very dry ride compared to some small SIBs. You can see from the photos .. it holds its nose well above the water.. so it is not a “must have” accessory. But hey... half the fun of having a boat is making things for it.

Hope the photos inspire you to brave the cold weather .. as that will be you zipping along .. soon enough.. Fortunately for us ..a cowboy hat is not a “must have” accessory either .... Yeeehaa

I have been known to wear the odd dodgy hat... well, that's what my wife thinks... I on the other hand think I look great in a hat

The images there are exactly what I'm keen to knock up... my handiwork might not be as tidy as Biggy's but one can try.

Thanks for the advice.

Stiggy

That set up will serve you well stigomery.
I wouldn't be without my spray cover on my Honwave 3.5ae.
I mad mine from an old tarp and tent pole.
I utilised the old guy ropes from the tent to anchor it down.
Cost me nowt more than my time.
