Going to Scotland this weekend

We usually sort out holidays between us, but my wife wanted to book a week in Scotland.

I said try to find somewhere we can take the SIB.

She's booked a cottage in a place called Loch Sween and I have to say it looks great, although it appears to be in the middle of nowhere.

I guess we will have to be careful out on the boat though, as there will be nobody about if we get into any trouble. Although I have no plans to venture out of the Loch into the sea.

Has anybody been to this area at all?

Jambo is the local expert. I've had some good trips there and am due back soon... We take a 3.9m with a 20HP and in the right weather and with some planning you could do some interesting trips. Whereabouts on the loch will you be based.

https://www.facebook.com/EileanMorMacCormick is worth a visit (if not too exposed for you) and Kilmory Bay is a good beach and around the Faery Isles should find you some seals and if you are lucky an Osprey. Fairy Isles Reserve, Scotland | By Scotland Channel

If you are in Tayvallich then you have the option of launching / recovering in tayvallich itself or popping over the wee hill into Carsaig and launching there into the sound of jura. In calm weather a "circumnavigation" would be feasible in your boat.

More than welcome. Chris. Yes it's a great place as you have access to the Sound for some long stuff and the shelter of the Loch for bad days or pottering. Good pub and coffee shop so sorted. Recommend.
Cheers

It's on the shore of the Loch, as we only have a small 2.85m SIB with a 9.8 hp on it, l think we will stay away from the open sea.
The property has a floating pontoon. I think we will have a great time looking at pictures of the area.

I am just back from there.Plenty to see and do.Can vouch for pub and coffee shop.Loads of wildlife...otters, beavers, ospreys. No mackerel in Loch Sween yet though.Chandlery at Crinan is not far away if you need boaty stuff.

Is it Simity cottage? There's plenty to do within the Loch to keep you happy. When are you up as I might be there.

We have been reasonably regular visitors to Tayvallich over the years. I've thought in the past that Achnamara would not be a bad place to base yourself either - as then you could hop in the boat and pop over to Tayvallich for a coffee and cake which would make for a nice wee trip.

I can honestly say that over the last 5/6 years I probably have had 2 nights where they have been a bit of a nuisance. the west is not as bad as it use to be and nothing compare with the horendous 'press' the wee beasties received over the years. hell they dont live long so give them some space anyway its only the female that bits and only if she likes the smell of ya

We will definitely be doing that! Looking forward to it. Will be great to open up the Tohatsu 9.8 and see what giddy speeds we can achieve.

Sorry if I caused offence Jambo
Been up the East coast to Brora fishing & this year for the first time due to the breeze no midges....
We go to Carradale for a couple of weeks in August and the little sods were appalling last year on a couple of occassins, the kids asked if they could borrow my cigar!
I once drove down to the head of Loch Etive and wondered why everybody was sat in their cars... I've never seen midges like them. Huge clouds that literally covered you and feasted .
Ironically we have a lot in Yorkshire this year!
No issues when out on the water at speed though

Sorry was wee bit edgey but the number of times it appears on here....... It just sometimes seems thats all scotland has to offer |Granted the wee bu££ers are 'bloody' annoying to say the least and have spoliled many a hiliday for me. We used to stay out on the water till night then make a run for the house they just love me sweet. JUST SO ARGYLL!!
Once had to use the windscreen wipers to take them of the car at the top of Glen Nevis. But over the last wee while (kiss of death) they have not been to bad up in Loch Sween.
My apologies to you and I hope you continue to holiday here in God's country.
Take care
B

No offence taken Jambo, we love the west coast ! Over the years done all of the west coast plus Mull & Skye and if I did the lottery & won it you'd find us as neighbours for a good part of the year!
Second only to Gods county with a coastline that to me is unbeatable in this island of ours!
Still hate the midges anywhere though............
