Fuel tank leak

I have a Yamaha tank which leaked badly when pipe was disconnected (in boot of car!!!).
Took tank connector out of tank and seems airtight, then when I connected fuel pipe and then removed it is fully open (can blow straight thru or fuel would pour out if tipped up).
The part is plastic and I can't see any way of checking o rings/springs/if sand grit is caught in it. Can you service or is it throw away and buy replacement?
Thanks
