Fitting trem wheels -help

Hello all

Help please

I'm just in the process of fitting trem wheels to my new honwave t40

The instructions that came with the wheels are woeful, although they do seem pretty good quality

They include a template for the mounting bracket. I've stuck it on to the transom - see photo. Before I still drilling does this look about right to people? Nothing wrong I hope? The lug thing is quite low down.

Also, the lug, how do you actually fit the threaded rod? Obviously you have to drill a hole for it but how do you screw it in, it's got no head on it ? Click image for larger version

Hi

From you photo

The bracket needs to be fitted higher so the lug can locate for a heavy duty belt and braces type fitting mainly for heavier boats, make sure it gives height for your prop when fitted and on the level
Also fit them as wide apart as you can for stability but not as to foul the tubes when folding

Regards

Hi Duggie,

I've fitted Trem wheels on my T40 and found them very good quality units.
The locking lug is very low on my transom, in fact I put the stud through the aluminium floor guide strip on mine, I'm getting the boat out later so I'll post you a couple of pictures.
Obviously you need to get the wheels far enough apart so they don't interfere with the full lock on your engine but not too much that they foul the tubes when you put them up & down.
Just screw the locking lugs onto the end of the studs and nip them up firmly with a pair of pliers, put the studs through the transom and use the dome headed nuts on the inside.

Dave.

Cheers black pig, the wheel is just in the photo to show the type I'm fitting. The white template that I've stuck to the transom shows where the securing bolt thing will be - you reckon that's too low? I've got it positioned so that it will be fitted pretty much at the bottom.of the transom

When you say make sure it gives height for your prop, what do you mean by that?

Cheers

Also the lug must have a threaded hole on the back for the threaded bar with nuts and washers hopefully supplied

On mine I have fitted the wheels without the lugs and fitted the brackets lower because it's a smaller boat and to give me more height when the wheels are in place

Sorry guys was being thick I didn't realise there was a bolt + washer that goes on the inside of the transom to secure the stud

I'm good to drill i think, but dave would be much obliged if you could send a photo. One of the inside of the transom would be good too just so I can see exactly where the stud comes though the transom. If I've got you right the aluminium strip will need to be taken off and a section cut out of it to accommodate the stud and bolt.....

Thanks

Hi Duggie,

Here's how I fitted my wheels, they are slightly different to yours as I've got a single wheel and a cranked post but I think the locking arrangement is the same.
The studs supplied by Trem won't be long enough to go through the transom and the aluminium strip but if you PM me your address I will send you a couple of longer 8mm stainless studs as I've got some left over from when I fitted mine.

Hi davey - or anyone else listening
Do you need to sikaflex around the rear bracket? They have a plastic spacer thing and I wonder if that provides a water tight seal against the transom. The instruction don't say anything about it -but then the instructions are full of errors

I've just got my tube of sikaflex out, which has inevitably gone hard because I didn't bother sealing the top properly when I used it last

My 3.5 AE and the mod I did to make the wheels easier to raise & lower.

Use some sealant, it can't hurt.

I found it really hard deciding where to locate my wheels on my T40. To clear the outboard, tubes and to give prop clearance I ended up having to drill through the information plate on the inside of the transom. Don't forget to use a good marine grade sealant in, on and around any holes you drill. My wheels are different to yours.
