Elling KB 350 valves

Hi All
I pumped the tubes up to a low pressure using a leaf blower attached with tape to the inflation pipe that came with the boat.

I had to open the valve on the boat first - correct?

when removing the pipe, the air hammered out until I closed the valve, I then fitted the cap.

when I did the floor, I thing the valve sealed on its own?

is this correct?

Don't remember my air tent doing this.

perhaps they are sticky, will mess again later, but any help appreciated.

Not sure how it will work with a leaf blower but usual to leave inner valve closed ie central plunger out. The pressure from a normal pump is sufficient to open these and they’ll auto seal when finished. Some adapters have an internal adjustable plunger which opens valve relieving back pressure and allowing faster inflation.

I connected the proper connector off the pump to the boat, the end that connects to the pump, I connected to the leaf blower.

However I had the valves open - will try closed.

My understanding is you always pump up with the valves closed and the adapter pushes them in somehow

Just to expand the chat...

Yes a good adaptor will depress the valve plunger to make it easier for the pump. If your adaptor is missing this a footpump will easily overcome but it can fool a two stage 12v pump into high pressure/low volume mode way too early.

Also some valve/adaptor combinations mean the valve stays depressed when you remove the hose and air gushes out... so when removing the hose just need to be ready to press the plunger to "unlock" it and just have a second of air loss.

Hi
I changed the end adaptor on the leaf blower to one that had a pin inside it in the centre that must depress the valve - I could then remove the pump with no air loss. then plugged in my 2 stage camping pump to finish off.

Just need to learn how to pack it away now...

Hving removed the air from the tubes, do you replace the cap on the valves? or leave them open and covered, or just open with the caps off?

Also, what's the red valve and other thing on the bottom of the transom?

We have the luxury of only deflating and rolling up at the end of the season and leave inner valves open and loosely install cap to keep any sharp edges away from the rolled fabric.

The red valve on the bow tube is an auto pressure relief valve (prv) which opens at a pre set pressure to protect against over inflation or increase in pressure from solar gain.

Not sure what you’re referring to on transom but there is an auto bailer in centre…up for open, down for closed. Under the transom and floor is the central keel. Inflated to the same pressure as tubes it helps smooth out water flow over prop to reduce ventilation which many cats suffer from.

Pressure- great
Auto bailer - thought it might be. Wasn’t sure if what they are called.
Having a towbar fitted next week.
Not sure if to get a camping trailer as I go camping or get a boat trailer.
