Hector loves the boat, he's got an outward hound life jacket and comes everywhere with us, I think he prefers the kayak as he can see out but he sleeps more in the boat

Sorry, not out this weekend, I don't think I'll be out until November now, I've ordered a couple of John Deere dry suits so as soon as I get a free weekend I'll be back on the water (unless it's too windy / choppy)

Managed to get out on Saturday afternoon, went to Bawdsey and launched on the beach. I'd not run this engine in the water before and so was nervous how it would be when warm ect. Turns out it was superb... Boat is suffering from a little cavitation and i had played with the trim. It maybe the boat was under inflated. It says 3.6psi on the tubes, but we got the gauge I'd bought off of eBay to 2.4psi and they seemed solid... I started to doubt the accuracy of the gauge. Or did I need to pump more?

Picked up another spares or repairs 2hp Johnson engine today. New plug, rewound the pull start, unblocked the fuel line and it runs superb :-) it will make a great spare engine and an engine for the Norfolk broads. Of which the 15hp is a bit much for.

Now i need to plan some clever storage on the boat!

Here's a video of today's purchase.

How was the current at bawdsy? When I went down the deben and came to Felixstowe ferry the current was trying its best to turn the boat around and it was pretty choppy.

Did you go out to sea or up the deben?

Where abouts on the broads are you going with your boat?
I'm off to the broads this weekend for a few days with the mrs, we're picking up a cruiser from stalham

We got on the water about an hour and a half before high tide and it was flowing fairly! We did venture out of the river mouth but there was still quite a bit of swell... So while we went far enough to claim we'd been in the sea we weren't there long with the unknown outfit. The 15hp didn't struggle against the tide that's for sure !

As for the broads... I don't know where to go yet... I'm sort of waiting for 7 days of half decent weather (ya right) to fork out for a 7 day licence. Theres no point in buying a year as it expires in April no matter when you get it... I'm hoping to try and get in the sea this weekend, or at the very least on the deben. :-)

I looked at the broads licenses - the prices are mad, I thought about taking our kayak this weekend and gave the idea up as soon as I saw the fee just to license a kayak!!!

I'm keen to try my one in a bit more choppy water to see how it takes it, our motor powered through the current at Felixstowe ferry but the boat did not want to go in a straight line, I think I made the biggest mistake when I slowed dons to approach it instead of planing through it with less in the water - when we went through the bottleneck at Mersea we skimmed over the running water!

I didn't do a lot of planing because of the speed limit... I did have a little blast for engine testing. I fancy trying out the rough stuff too.... Let me know when you go and I'll tag along, safety in numbers and all that.

I don't think the broads licence is too bad if you do a full year.. There's a lot of water to cover and it would be great in the summer.. Would obviously prefer it to be free though

Well as I've not had my sib out much this year could be tempted with a mersea trip, I'm only 9.9hp in reality about 5

If you do go let me know if I'm available I'll drop in, I normally launch in Harwich so mersea will be a nice change!

Hey Nick.

Where abouts do you launch in harwich? Is it tide dependant?

If I make it to Mersea I'll post it up! :-)

I launch just past the sailing club in Harwich, it's a nice spot and easy at HT but can be a pita at LT as its a bit muddy and a long drag back up the beach, only issue I've seen within the inner wall at very LT there is a huge amount of metal stakes in the water along where people fish off the path. I haven't seen them marked up on any chart but I've only seen them once.

I normally go out along to Clacton and back, have been out felixstowe way as well and have spotted some seals along there so may take a look again over the winter!

Car park costs £3 and is empty for much of the time, I just chain my box trailer up to a sign down there!

I've been watching the weather like a hawk... I got out at Bawdsey again on Sunday with 2 others. We left Bawdsey and went to Ramsholt when a squal blew through. We jumped in the boat and flew back with the wind over the tide giving some fun conditions! Great for testing the boat in.

I'm really hoping to get out at Mersea on Sat.... Anyone else going out?

It's the boat jumble at Trinity Park on Sun too :-)

Not today I'm afraid, a bit annoying as I just got a new ringo to try out! Racing in kings Lynn today but I should have time to get to the boat jumble tomorrow, I can't think of anything I need but I fancy a look around
