Best size of fuel tank for my setup

Hello all, my very first post here.

I was lucky enough to recently pick up a mint condition low use Tohatsu 9.8 Two Smoke (it looks like new out of the box). It's for my Honwave T38.

As I am new to SIB'ing I wondered if anyone could offer advice on the most suitable size fuel tank for a day out, not much WOT but cruising along taking in the sites with myself and wife (I'm around 13 stones, she's about 9 stones). No heavy gear, just the fuel tank, and a cool box for a picnic to land on some of the beaches or anchor near the islands and bays.

A typical day could be out from Poole Harbour to maybe Swanage and back, or exploring in the harbour, maybe Wareham and back from Baiter Park, that sort of thing. I don't plan on hitting it hard as I have owned faster boats in the past and this time want more relaxing and lower cost boating.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you.
Mark.

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum. I have just bought the same motor as you and my choice is to use the 12l tank that comes with it and carry a quality 5l or 10l top up can. This is motivated in my case by finding my previous 25l tank a fair weight when full.

How did you manage to find a holy grail Tohstsu 9.8 2-stroke?

David

Hi David, thank you for the welcome and your recommendation.

I had a feeling 25L would be a bit too large so what you advise makes a lot of sense.

Believe it or not Gum Tree was where I found the 9.8, it had been online for about two hours and I was first to contact the seller, when I collected he said the phone had not stopped ringing about the add. I was very lucky to get hold of one as I know how desirable these are, especially a mint unit.

Have a good weekend

Not been on the water with it yet as waiting for lockdown end and a new SIB from the Ukraine. But had one before so know exactly their light to handle and easy servicing benefits.

Of course options for extra fuel cans are many and varied but I've chosen the ones on post #105 in this thread...

I bet you can't wait, these lockdowns have been hellish. I hope you have a good season with your new boat, look forward to see some images and reports on what you get up with that.

That's so weird, I only saw this video a few days ago and thought it was good due to the setup, it moves along nicely. Thanks for sharing the video.
