Avon Wb 341

Has anyone had any experience of one of these, I have read somewhere that it's rated to 30 hp, have an old Evinrude 30 short shaft kicking around and thought it might be a good pair. The Evinrude has a stainless prop with a a good pitch for speed so be good for some summer fun.

I have it's leisure sister, the Sportsboat 3.40

Mine's rated to 25Hp.

I'm trying to create another "Frankenstein" engine to put on it - an old ('72) Johnson 20 long shaft about to be short shaft-ed by adding the leg off a short 'Rude..... For the moment it's powered by the Aux off the rib!

As with 9D280 I have experience of the "leisure" range and they were already well built so the upgraded WBs will have a very rugged construction. Actually depending on how you will be getting it to the water heavy construction weight might be the only downside.

The weight being the only drawback but usually go in a pair so not too bad, just faffing around putting floor in

You are presumably not familiar with my usual choice of engines!

It's an old (1972-ish) Johnson, so will be rated at the crank, so more likely behave like a 15... especially as I have done nothing to the powerhead to improve it. (I re- piston-ed the Merc so it was as good as new when I put it on the Rib)

Will hopefully find out this summer how well (or not!) it goes....

Picked the Avon up last weekend, only had chance to clean it, impressed by the build quality although a little heavy ad expected, was wondering what transom wheels to fix to it, I have some 30 mm thick square stainless ones that are rayed to 150 kg but expect the all up wright with fuel etc to be near this, are there any preferences as to which ones to use
