Avon 3.4 advice required.

Afternoon all, I'm looking for some help on my Avon 3.4 (s/n# AVB22482M84F)

What weight anchor would be best to use for light inshore work on the south west coast of Scotland? Depth average of 30-70ft aprx. The ground is mixed sand/shingle/kelp beds. The engine attached is a 9.9 Mercury 2 stroke with a 23ltr plastic fuel tank. There will be two persons onboard. We'll only be going out 1 mile max. Got the vhf, flares, first aid, life jackets

I need some new oars too...could anyone advise on the correct length to suit my avon?

I also need a new drain bung....The one I have is knackered...what size should I look for? Do I need an expanding one?...sorry bit of a noob with SIB's

Can you confirm that my SIB is 'Hypalon'?

Any help most appreciated.

I would go for a Bruce type, Danforth type or Delta type anchor. I have one of these (Delta copy):

http://www.force4.co.uk/1173/Plastim...-up-to-6m.html

Though I have not really used it in anger. The 2KG version is supposed to be good enough for boats up to 4 metre. You will want a length of chain and rope with it. Opinions seem to vary from a total length of 4 x water depth to 8 x water depth - on a SIB you are going to be very much constrained by space and weight.

For a drain bung, I suspect you want item 2 here:

Though I would check dimensions before purchase.

Oars want to be about 1.5 to 2 metres long - something like these:

and finally, yes your SIB will be hypalon.

Cheers

Chris
