Are my expectations too great ?

Hi All

Just received a second Aerotec today (rejected the first due to what looked like glue over a scuff) and this one has a small hole.

Also has anyone else received one with patches under the grab handles ?
All the pictures I can see the handles attach directly to the tube.

Am I just being too fussy ?

There's something very wrong here... that blue stripe is from an old Aerotec!

And those patches totally unacceptable!

Was that boxed and packed as new?

If it has a hole it has to go - a small hole now equals a big hole later.

Not sure on how they are attaching handles but per it does allow a wider spread of any load so personally don't see that bit as an issue, however they aren't even central to the patch.

But a hole.............................

No it had been out of the box clearly, bits of packaging missing (like the foam around the metal handle at the front.

Sean could you pop off the alloy outboard clamp plate... see if the serial number printed into the timber agrees with the alloy plate on the transom.... and I assume this shows a 16 at the end for build date.

How about the floor fit?

Plate shows J516, same as the other one.

I've just spoken to another dealer who said that these do sometimes come with small marks and defects. I also asked him about the white and blue, he said he thinks this is current. He said he didn't know about the grab handle fixing and I should contact Bombard direct about this.

Haven't tried the floor yet.

Yes, apparently brand new, there are marks on the transom from where a motor has been attached but I'm really not bothered about that as guessed it could just have been in the show room etc

So not brand new, ex display at best. It's possible that it's used, the handles are stuck back on as they were damaged?

Looking at the Bombard website they are clearly stuck on without patches.

If you've paid for new, then return and except nothing but. If you had a massive discount for an ex display / demonstrator then maybe except it.

But hole are never good.............

Looks like the earlier ones were of higher build and packaged quality. Sign of the times im guessing. I was at henshaws the other day and they had a load of hypalon sibs there. Looked awesome and very strong. Thats the route i would take instead of this other material which seems to be as strong as whispers tights!!

Do not accept,,,re-package, send back, cancel order, do not contact Bombard, your contract is with the supplier, not the manufacturer.

If they start getting funny, get a solicitor, don't mess around

Did your previous new one have the blue stripe on the rubbing strip?

Have you an images of the valves on this latest one?

As the dealer agreed to swap the original new one there is no reason at all why the replacement should have clamp marks on the transom. Ok the marks might not worry you but it does beg the question... what's the source of this replacement??

I think to get a complete idea of what you have now I'd fully inflate to pressure and check the floor fit.

Reject it for sure, and don't be fobbed off by the dealer - your contract is with him not Bombard. And they must collect it - just Google for UK consumer law etc - all power is with the customer these days and they will be responsible for collecting it.

I would try and find one second hand and save a packet - I'm sure the earlier ones around 5- 10 years old are better made. Sounds like Bombard are clearing out a lot of iffy dealer demonstrators or similar from all these tales lately.

Or perhaps repairing previous returns and using them as returns. There were supposed to be big positive things happening when the new guy bought Zodiac last summer but now you have to wonder just what's happening.

For the record my late 2014 Aerotec is made as well as any earlier one... accepting the air floor was incorrectly dimensioned initially but now that's resolved there are no further issues... nothing like these post autumn 2015 model problems Sean has experienced.

either that or the new ones are inferior quality and you are getting charged more for them as well

Also I think I've said before there were no Aerotecs built for about 12mths up to Sept 2015 while they were waiting for a rescue buyer. I just wonder if they had part built ones or a stores of old materials they've started off with when the factory restarted??

I'm sure Pennine Marine will play fair over a refund.

I think it was his display model.

I've already packed it up ready for it to be collected
