Anglesey Launching
Ello.
I'm eyeing the weather this weekend for a trip to Anglesey for first time ever. Gotta get registered and all that, but I'm on a 9.9hp so should be able to swerve actual launch fees.
I want to launch as close to dawn as I can manage as I'm going fishing.
I have either transom wheels with tyres or a very light combi trailer with hard wheels, no tread. 3.2m SIB with 9.9hp four stroke. Not going far out or anything, trying for mackerel and sea bass.
Will only be out for few hours if that's what slipway and tidal dictate.
I can only get info from Boatlaunch etc, so I'm wanting more concrete info on launch spots. So far potentials look like Treaddur Bay, Beaumaris by the lfieboat station (apparently this is is full tidal range), Bull Bay, Cemaes Bay.
Any info on these or any other suggestyions much appreciated. I'm not wanting the Menai Strait proper (Beaumaris is as close as I'll get).
Thx for replies

Have partly answered some of my own question - I just spoke to a fella at the council and he said Treaddur Bay is not recommended at the moment unless you have a 4x4.
But said Beaumaris is good and that the slip is basically useful at all tide times, so I'm going there. Anyone else got any tips about that place, let me know . Near a kids' swimming pool or something, he said the slip was.

Have a look at Ty Calch, Chris is a top man and it’s a good fishing area for Bass & Mackies. There’s a spot further on from TC that you can pull into & launch over the beach if you want the full “wild” experience.

Hi Croolis, I'm in Anglesey at the moment.
Cross over either bridge and hang a left, head for Anglesey Sea Zoo. With a small set up like you have you will definitely be able to launch from the pebble beach, best at the end of the road where Foel Ferry Cottage's are. Head left once launched for a couple of hundred metres then swing a right in the middle of the straights towards Caernarfon then straight out into the bay at high tide. Remember to come back the same way as there are lots of sand banks and old submerged wooden jetty's.
Registration, would I??? not one for advocating any to circumnavigate the rules but there ain't no one here to check.

I've no experience of launching sibs but Beaumaris looks to me to be a good launch site. I used to launch sailing dinghies there but that was over half a century ago! I stand to be corrected but it doesn't look too steep and if anything might be on the shallow side at lower states of the tide.
Be aware that the tidal stream in the Straits (including Beaumaris) behaves something like the Solent and as it is a strong stream would definitely be worth familiarising yourself with it before you go so you can plan accordingly.
The slip is only 5 minutes walk from the pleasant town centre so definitely more shoreside facilities than any of the other locations. Even a castle if that's your thing.

I also don't understand why you need a 4x4 at Treaddur Bay? You are launching a small sib with transom wheels or a launch trolley at high tide (early morning this weekend) from a decent slipway onto hard sand.
I'm there tomorrow so I can suss it out for you if you want. You will definitely need to be registered if you launch from Treaddur Bay and parking isn't cheap
It will also be very busy this weekend because of the weather.
An alternative would be Borth Wen. Launch straight from the beach, again hard sand, will anyone be there to check registration - questionable?

Cheers for that. Will add to notes, but, this time at least, I want to avoid a beach launch (never done it) into the Menai proper (never done that either). Want to keep my variables down on inexperienced things, will be on my own as well. Will be sure to come back to that later, like Ty Calch as well (I'm building up to that one). Regards registration - I've already done it. £40, and for my 9.9hp, no launch charge so meh. I'm screwing a bit more at the £40 I've already paid to Gwynedd for registration too, as I may well not be going back there this year (launch fee at Pwlheli harbour slip is £25 for both ways ).

Will do some swatting on the tidal things before I commit to going, thx. I didn't check the parking there. In perfect world I'd have a trailer, but I have the option of not trailering. Must look into it.

The guy on the phone said something about sand being an issue recently (lack or too much), something about north easterlies, presumably a tidal transport thing, dunno if it's manually maintained. I didn't ask any more.
The plan, as I say, is to launch by about 5am, that'll be couple hours off high tide. I dunno how the Menai is at that point or what sort of tide we're having this weekend. Will do my research as soon as my boss wanders away .

Typical council advice, a small front wheel drive would easily manage at Treaddur.

Decisions, decisions lol. I've never beach launched, but the enclosed bay at Treaddur will be a good place to learn by the look of it. Looks like I'll not be able to use trailer as I'll be on my own. Dunno - leave boat near surf while parking car? Sounds iffy. Met office sez 0.3m wave height on the beach, but I bet it won't be that in the flesh 'cos enclosing rocks?
Or Beaumaris and be able to do (by the sound of it) the slipway with no bother, but deal with turn of high tide at Menai.

Treaddur isn't a problem with transom wheels and the car park is just across the road from the slipway. What day are you thinking of coming to Anglesey?
2 hrs before high tide.

Cracking pics Steve, great weather and location.
Mrs F visited for work a few times and stayed right at the top of the slipway, always sending me a breakfast time pic from the top of the slip saying we should holiday here but so far it hasn't happened.

That would be the Treaddur Bay Hotel.
You should make the journey north west Fenlander I think you would like Treaddur Bay.
