55hp mariner on a duties

I'm looking at a zodiac futura with a 55hp mariner 2 stroke...

The engine was serviced 6 years ago used for five days and then put into storage..
What are that model like?
Is it a problem being stood for so long
It's pull start only engine which seems weird for something so powerful..

Cheers woz

Hope it's cheap, its about 25- 30 years old if it's a Mariner.

Had the Yamaha version on a Super V when they were new, no issues and always started on the button. As Nos4R2 says, not been made since 1984 ish. Pretty sure that at that age HP was measured at crank so equivalent to a modern 50hp Lightweight engine for what it is, will make a Futura fly

Does it run? Was it under cover or outside? Was it properly put into storage mode with the cylinders fogged with oil?

Could be pristine, could be completely seized.

All as iv been told is that it was serviced 6 years ago used for 5 day diving holiday and then the boat and engine were put into a heated garage....the engine runs....its going to be a 360 mile journey to go see it and I'm worried that's the engine is going to be rubbish

If it was stored in a heated (less damp) garage and is in running condition I would go get it! Just be mindful of its age while bargaining on price.

If it hasnt been used for five years , the first thing to do is change ALL rubber items on the p/h
