4 mtr Humber sib ebay, any thoughts/advice

Hi, Sorry do not know how to post links but the sib is item no. 290939733227.
Just wondered if anyone had any knowledge or experience with one of these, I have messaged the seller with a few questions tube construction, floor boards, keel, etc, he thinks that the tubes are pvc (I would have thought Hypalon), the keel is sectional wood.
Basically do you think its worth a punt or would you stay clear, I am just looking for something a little bit bigger than my existing 2.8 mtr with 10hp, but my budget will not stretch to a modern sib at the moment

Any information on the sib or advice would be welcome

Those 25hp short shaft engines on tiller steer are like rocking horse sh!* to get hold of for decent money, Depending on how much he is will to let it go for and the engine is a good runner why not. The boat its self though does look like its made from hypalon, If you are just looking for a boat im sure you would get alot newer than that for around similar money.

I cant believe how much people are after/paying for a used one at this time of year. Not far of the price for a new one.

Must admit I was a bit unsure about asking the question as I did not want to draw attention to it, might have shot myself in the foot

I was thinking that the 4 mtr sib and 25 hp engine could be a good deal but I do not know anything about the Humber sib could be older than me .
A 5 mtr sib would be too big and I do not have the room for a trailer so has to be packed away. Its just that I get itchy fingers

Update

Sorry for the late update.

I let the auction run poised to bid just incase, anyway no bidders @ £450.00 start price so contacted John the seller and did the deal for £375.00 and I have to say a very nice straightforward guy, would not take deposit said that whenever I could pick it up would be fine to pay cash then, it took me 10 days to get the time to go and get it.

To say that I am over the moon would be an understatement what a bargain .

The 1987 25 hp 2 stroke Mariner is in fantastic condition very well looked after or very little use. just need to build my muscles up now

The Humber 4 mtr sib also is in great condition I am just doing a little tidy up of a few bits and bobs then will take some photos and post them on here.

Just thought that I would update the thread for anyone that may be interested in the outcome

Is it bad to gloat

Sounds like an incredible deal!

Pictures please! They are easy to post - just click the "go advanced" button then go to "manage attachments" which will be under the text box, and pick out the relevant pictures from your computer files. The prompts step you through the process

I have painted the floorboards and transome and cleaned the tubes up abit still work in progress though.

But I think for an old sib she looks well, I am well happy

As you can see the engine although 1987 looks to be in very good condition, it starts and runs pefectlyl (in my wheelie bin ) smokes a little on start up but I am just running the fuel off that came with the tank 5 gallons , so probably old fuel, he through in a foot pump and life jacket.

I have done a compression test and both cylinders are within 2psi @ 110psi do not know if this is good or bad but like I say runs very well, and it does look like it has been well maintained.

So once again very happy

Thanks again for your input, I hope you meant fun in the true sense of the word and not fun as it looks like it might fall to bits

I would say you got the bargain of the year there bartiny. I just swapped a hardshell displacement boat, trailer, and 4 year 4hp old engine..which I considered was worth around 1.5k for a 1996 setup.. kind of similar to yours ..hey and it is fun..in a fun way.. the 25 hp will make it fly

Thanks Max, hell that Zodiac does look a good deal but not being too experienced in these matters I could be wrong, but I would have give it a go

I was very lucky with The set up I got mainly because it was badly listed it looked like the auction was just for a rather sad looking Humber sib so I guess that any brousers would skip past it as it was a starting bid of £450.00, you would have had to have been interested in the sib to go into the listing to read the description only then did it mention the Mariner etc.

Thanks for your input , cant wait to try it

Thanks for that, my setup is 10yrs older than yours so hard to judge, like I explained to Max I was very lucky, just need to get out and try it now.

You can't go wrong - if the engine works reliably and the boat floats then where else can you have that much potential fun for £400 odd!

Only thing to watch with these Zodiacs (mid 80s) is that the tube seam runs under the lace cuff. Zodiac later moved the seam underneath which was better, as the boat was subject to pressure increase in hot weather. The Yamaha engine is probably early 80s and built to last. Change the impeller, thermostat, gear oil, sparks and starter pull cord regularly and this engine will last forever.
