ultimate trailer board!

I've bought and thrown away a lot of trailer boards over the years and I've decided to make one that lasts forever - well at least a month!

I'm going to make it out of upvc sofitt and use led lamps higed in the middle any body got any suggestions as to any other feature for me to pimp my trailer board

Why not add a 'this vehicle is reversing' sounder?

Reversing light.

Boat name sign written on the board.

Engine logo.

RIB logo.

RIBnet sticker.

Marker plates. Yellow with reflective red stripes. Graft in side markers up near the front so's the goons who only look just past the end of their bonnets have a chance of seeing you coming. If Mr Plod stops you, at least you can show you are trying.

Don't forget it would need to be bilingual if in Wales :P

Otherwise I always wonder why trailerboards never have a reversing light on them

Plaster this stuff all over it;

Conspic

And they'll think it's a police boat and leave you alone, or trash it depending on demeanor

Can I just hijack this by asking if anyone has added lights down the side of the trailer? The number of times the trailers nearly been side swiped at night on the motorway has got me to thinking to fitting yellow marker lights. I'm not sure but I seem to remember a trailer has to be a certain length to have lights down the sides?

Here in the US, you have to have marker lights if the trailer is over some length (but I don't recall what it is.)

Since my trailer is over 80", I have to run marker lights at the (theoretical) widest point of the trailer (which turns out to be the fenders); I also have marker lights where the frame rails join the tongue. Plus the center rear marker lights.

Don't know your traffic regs, but here, you can augment lighting as long as you: a) meet the minimum specs, and b) don't cause confusion with the minimum spec lighting with the additions.

Lights are covered under The Road Vehicles Lighting Regs 1989

Here is a breakdown of the lighting regs for trailers:

http://www.ntta.co.uk/law/trailers/lights.htm
and
http://completetowing.co.uk/towinglaw.aspx

although, some of them seem to exclude boat trailers.

I hate reading through regs

I stuck self adhesive plastic reflectors on the sides of my trailer not as good as side marker lamps (which should show white to the front and red to the rear) but it is a cheap solution from "The Pound Shop"

I hate reading regs too. My mind always wonders by the time I get to the third sentence and I end up on Redtube again

Not a bad idea. Have you ever had it happen to you? You move into the middle lane to let traffic off the slip road and into the slow lane. They let my van pass them and then go to dart out as soon as my rear bumper goes past them. Always see them snake back in quick but one day some soft
Mr A.R.Sole will side swipe the trailer.

Sorry to side swipe this thread

It's never happened to me but it is always a concern that the trailer is not easily seen by other road users

These are the Canadian regs surprisingly simple for a Gov body http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/.../Trlrpstr.html

Rogue Wave ......dont know how good your fabrication skills are but I have these in my workshop for completion ....excuse the drawing ..i'm offshore and dont have cad out here

these are going to be my light mounts and doubling up as guides for when i bring the boat back in .similar to goalposts .....they mount just in front of the rear wheel .....they are telescopic cause my tubes are a bit wider than the trailer and swing up 90 degress and get locked by a pin ......in the down position they get pinned onto a supporting angle .....I am fitting mine with LEDs, i wanted to swing them upwards so they are clear of the water cause i dont trust them to be waterproof .....also might paint them orange or something similar

hope you can understand what i've drawn

Ian, if I understood your doodle correctly - then you just have two light clusters at each corner of the trailer. Where does your number plate mount? and can you illuminate it from the swing down light clusters?

Before Rogue Wave turns around and tells us that's what it's all about can I ask how you'll run the wire to the lights? Will they run inside the trailer?
