Trailer modification for off-road application

Gentlemen,

I would very much like to see photographs of your modified rigid hull inflatable boat trailer. Specifically, those of you that have altered the trailer with the intention of hauling your RHIB over gravel, rutted dirt, desert, snow or sand. I realize that the majority on this forum are either from the UK or mainland Europe, so this request will come across as ridiculous to y’all; but I thought that perhaps some of you from Oz, BC or maybe Africa, Finland or Russia might have gone down this route out of necessity.

For instance, raised height at which the boat sits, knobby taller tires, PTO driven hydraulic winch for shore recovery off the beaten path.

Any real life examples would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
BRUTUS

BFG km2 mt 265/75 16 tyres.

Will happily go anywhere behind the land rover and tows like a dream.

Its got about 1ft of clearance under the the bottom of the skegs with the engines down and about 18 inches to the underside of the axles.

The mudguards are 6ft long by 1ft square.

Ah the high top roof lol. Its given me another 18 inches in height inside.

It was going to go orange to match but I have a replacement Defender due in the next couple of weeks so all work stopped on the colour change.

Dear all,

Thanks for contributing.

I found some images on the forum I presume to be Bogmonster’s trailer y’all are talking about – cool.

Mcd22 – what a great setup, definitely looks solid. Well done. I would have worried that the KM2’s would be too heavy, but then again the carcass is stiff relative to the weight of the boat that you could run low psi and the main contributing weight factor would be the wheels…

I’m aiming towards something along that line.

BTW, I like your Defender; hopefully the replacement will have that much character.

jyaski – interesting alternative to portal axles, I wasn’t thinking of removing the axel, but maybe I should give it more thought.
Thanks

Feel free to contribute more pictures everybody – they fuel the mind.

Have a look at Expedition Portal's forum. There's a section for off road trailers. Many are home made and will certainly fuel some design ideas for you.
