Trailer bunks diy

Looking for suggestions for some diy bunks. It's for a Honwave t35 alloy floor. I've thought about just getting some long scaffold boards. Carpeting them and bolting then to the existing trailer frame

Anything better to use ?

Cheers

Gav

Yes this is good stuff and designed for the job you need to glue it down

Old carpet has its flaws this is anti friction

I converted a roller trailer to bunks for my SIB a couple of years ago, basically doing what you are suggesting (I used astroturf rather than carpet but both can have friction issues so be a little careful here).
I also made some smaller blocks that sit underneath the boat to that the boat does not sag....for want of a better technical term! It took a bit of fiddling about to get the heights etc. adjusted so that the trailer fitted the boat. I went over to see the guys at De Graaff trailers (https://www.degraafftrailers.co.uk/i...-boat-trailers) who were really helpful in advising and selling the brackets and metalware etc.
Best of luck...a few hours on this will save you loads of time when launching and retrieving your boat (more time on the water!!!!)

Carpet, even marine carpet is not very good to use on trailer skids, look at teflon skids. There are several styles about, the one with the grove in the centre allows for screws to be used that sit bellow the top of the skid. Your boat will slide on and off smoothly without any trouble using this stuff. This is how Ive refitted my fibreglass boats trailer, for my daughters smaller in I simply have two skids the length of the trailer and rollers down the centre.

Carpet will build up with salt and possibly sand if beach launching making the skids very abrasive, which is both bad for the hull and bad for sliding on and off.

I'm with Jonp. I actually have bare wood on the bunks I've replaced on mine rather than carpet. Looks a bit rubbish, but does dry out and doesn't damage the gel.

I used 25mm thick HPDE sheet cut into strips, had it for several years now and it works well.
