Towing With Outboard on Transom

I've recently bought a 3.5 Honwave and spotted in the manual that it isn't recommended to trailer and tow the boat with the outboard attached. I find this odd as just about every SIB I've seen towed does, is this Honda covering themselves or is it really not the thing to do.

Towing With Outboard on Transom

Trailer bounce will put stress the transom. Would recommend using a transom saver to support outboard to the trailer.

I tow all the time with my motor on, and use a spring loaded transom saver. When stored on the trailer, I put a cinder block under the motor then stack a wood pieces until the motor weight is transferred to the ground.

There are a couple of different styles of transom saves. As you can see in the photo above it is designed to fit over a roller. Mine is the same thing which I got for $15 so I modified it to work with my trailer which does not have a roller, so I built some brackets to keep it in place. Your trailer setup dictates the type you need to purchase.
