Sub 2T car with 1.5T towing capability?

Sorry if this has been asked before. I've tried searching but can't find anything.

I've bought a new rib that's on a 1500kg trailer. My cars max gross weight is approx. 2180kg, so as I can't currently get a trailer test I'm stuck with having a mate move my boat for me.

Does anybody have any ideas on sub 2000kg cars that can pull 1500kg braked trailer? happy for it to be cheap and a complete dog as looking at something bigger once dvla starts testing again.

thanks,

Gav

Just checked my Mondeo estate logbook and its MAM is 2200(ish)kg so thats a no-no.

Last model Vectra might be worth checking, they're lighter, cheap as chips and have a 1500kg towing capacity.

You mention the trailer is rated for 1500kg. Does it actually weigh that or can you lower the plated weight to allow towing with your current car?

Good question. 6.3 ocean pro with df140 and 100L tank. SBS trailer.
Guessing boat is just under 1000kg fueled up.

Sounds like it would be approaching 1500kg then. Worth a thought anyway. Good luck with the car search!

Take the rig to a weighbridge & weigh it if its only 12 or1300kg then buy a new plate from ebay and stamp a lower rating on it. Its the maximum gross plated train weight that matters for your licence not the actual weight. Obviously its pointless if the rig is close to the 1500kg as then the trailer is overloaded
Worth the cost of a weighbridge ticket to find out

Skoda Octavia seems to get good reviews for towing but I think TimB's Dacia Duster suggestion is possibly a winner.

Is the older rav 4 less than 2tonnes max vehicle weight?

Will try and get it all weighed this week.

Thanks for Duster suggestions. I did look onto Dusters earlier on but I think the older ones have a lower than 1500kg towing weight. Would be delighted if I'm wrong on this.

As long as it's a 4x4 diesel even the very first 2013 plates will tow 1500kg
In my post at no. 11 the tow car review is of a 2013 Duster.

Allroad gvw is 2600kg so tow capacity is 900kg if driver doesnt have b+e entitlement
