Rollercoaster 1 Roller stainless washers

Howdy all .. had a close call last year when a washer holding the ribbed rubber roller collapsed allowing the roller to dissapear off the dumbell shaft almost resulting in the metal shaft going up through a tube on launch of the boat at the bow. So this year I need to replace all the washers that retain the ribbed rollers in place , but for the life of me I cant seem to find the exact size in 316 stainless anywhere ? Havent contacted indespension yet but they dont list any on there site , the washers I need are M27's with an o/d of 55mm .. 50's I can get a plenty,.. but I want the 55's as it gives the rubber roller more support. .. Any ideas ?

Hey, from my experience with this problem, it’s not the washers that are the issue but the retaining pins. On my RC1 if removed the chromed caps altogether, the just held the salt, drilled the ali bar, and used mild steel split pins to hold the rollers and washers in place.

Yeah I'm using good grade SS cotter pins, they aren't the problem the washers were probably just zinc coated, and wore out too soon, so I want to replace them with A4 stainless this time, possibly thicker too.

I did this mod @15yrs ago now on the Indespension trailer for my Ocean.

the Stainless Washers have lasted perfectly and combined with Stainless split pins I've never lost a Roller since.

I Sourced the Washers and Pins through Montrose Fasteners in High Wycombe, and I remember being surprised at the time how cheap they were.
I just gave them the dimensions of the Galvanised ones and they took it from there.

They look exactly like the image posted by jncunliffe but in Stainless.
My trailer is so old it had drilled holes and pins from new.

Unfortunately I no longer deal with Montrose for work, and they've been brought out by a larger company.
But my suggestion is to find your nearest independent fasteners supplier and ask.

These?
https://www.accu.co.uk/en/flat-washe...11-HAFM-M27-A4

Albeit the price is a bit of a shock!

If all else fails are there penny washers with 55mm o/d which you could bore/drill out to 27mm? - although a very quick search produces nothing in that o/d.
These list a 60mm o/d but that would be more work: http://www.ukstainless.co.uk/a4-stai...y-washers.html

Might it be cheapest/simplest to use stainless split pins to retain the standard washers & just replace them every few years?

Have contemplated doing the same job in the past but couldn't get the old split pins out to even remove the roller so put it in the too hard pile. Haven't had any rollers pop off yet and the trailer is 21 years old but maybe time to look at it.

If you can't find the exact size washers in stock anywhere then it may be worth getting a laser cutting company to cut some from A4 stainless. Given other laser cutting quotes I've had it could be quite cost effective. Would allow you to choose thickness too.

I had to drill out every single old rusty split pin in my drill press after removing the arms from the trailer.

It was a long process but worth it.

Small sharp flat chisel both sides of the split pin, remove the rollers then a pin punch or drill to clear the hole.

Roll pins are hardened and nasty to remove when stuck although I never came across stainless ones.

A2 (304) washers still look like new on my trailer by the way.

Might be tricky because you are hunting for m27 ,checked the indespension catalogue and their rollers are quoted at 25mm internal bore ,hence 25mm washers form c would be worth asking for a sample ? ,dont have any indespension rollers myself but measured my extreme today and 25mm would fit on their ally wing brackets ,measured snipe blue on ally brackets and rollerbunk on ally wingbrackets and those are under 20mm incase its helpful to anybody else

If you use 304 a2 you could always launch into fresh water a couple of times a year and it would prove very helpful rinsing everything off !

Thank you paintman .. I came across these today from accu and were the closest (ONLY) I can find .. a month waiting time though for delivery but I'll go with them I think, as they are A4. Ive got good stainless cotter pins already on the trailer, its the washers that let me down, but i'll replace the pins with new anyway. Thanks for everyones help .. Moral is to check your washers .. nearly had a swift end to my holiday last year over this, I know we all check lots of bits regulary for a safe cruise, but this was an area I'd overlooked.
