This is a slight gamble but I think this would work.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maypole-U...UAAOSws0tfiXTc

The only potential fly in the ointment would be if the car's lights are "ground switched" but if you stick the ground terminal of a DVM to ground and check that it actually applies 12V the each tail bulb to light it then I'd think it will be ok.

There’s the rub, we had a nightmare with a Disco3, it wouldn’t change gear in the dark (yes really) after much investigation it turned out to be the Halfords brake light bulb that I’d used to replace the factory fit one which had blown. It was somehow giving a back feed that was screwing up the canbus. Gone are the days when you could just califudge car electrics, they are complex networks with fibre optics and all sorts of USS Enterprise exotics. I’ve had fun & games over the years with LED trailer lights, to the point now where I just bite the bullet & get the OEM kit.

I have the oem kit on my car dealer fitted with software wasn't cheap....... i DIY fitted OEM towing loom on my previous car was cheap on ebay. But come a cross a few cars recently that are a nightmare, A Renault was soo bad he gave up (well it gave up and got scrapped) on trying to sort electrics for towing

Ford seems not quite as bad as Renault but expensive and needs coding which is an unknown cost at this stage.

Will get meter out and check voltages
