axle weights

hi
I'm rebuilding my rib trailer and was wondering does anyone know what weight axle i would need as mine are rotten and are replacing them, i don't want to buy what i don't need, my boat is a 4 meter avon searider and i have a 40hp mariner i think the total weight: would be about 555kg as what i have found on google, would 350kg axle be enough many thanks for any advise.

A 350kg axle is no use for 550kg boat. personally I'd be tempted to go for 750kg units so you have some in reserve. Don't think you'll find anything between 500& 750kg anyway so possibly 750 is your only option

Dont forget you need to cover your load with the right ply rating of tyre ,if your on 500x10 wheels you will need at least 6 ply for 750kg load rating and personally i run 8 ply kendras with (2x500kg ) 1000 kg rating just see it as sensible with the potholes and indeed some slipways are a little rugged !

Always leave yourself some suspension in reserve. The rubber cords will compress over time and you'll be glad you did.

Just go for 750kgs, there's no money to be saved.

With that combination your trailer would be overloaded.

Illegal - dangerous condition - with fines & points.
POSSIBLY dangerous driving by virtue of unsafe load as you know the load is well overweight.

In the event of an incident your insurance company may well pay out to third parties involved but are unlikely to pay your losses & may well come after you for what they have paid out.

hi
thanks for the input guys, just to make things clear i wasn't trying to undercut or make something that wouldn't do the job just that i thought that since you had 2 axles at 350kg each i thought this would total to a carrying weight of 700kg,which would have been adequate, that why i asked on here.

I think the confusion here is whether you have 4 wheels on two axles in which case your 350kg units will be fine however if you only have 2 wheels then the 350kg units will not be ok the load capacity is stated per pair of units to fit 1 axle obviously this doubles if you have 4 units on two axles
Not many sub 750kg trailers have 2 axles hence everyone assuming you meant two suspension units

^^^This.

Twin axle set up of 2 x 350kg you're fine.

If you'd told us that in the first place.......

I wouldn't want to fight a second axle when one 750kgs axle will do fine and be cheaper to replace.

Actually Peak Dynamics made me an unbraked axle out of 70mm box normally used on 1000kg braked single axles at no extra charge. My boat and engine weigh under 500kg but glad to have the reserve.

Twin axle trailer for a 4M Searider?
Suitable new trailers would be:
https://indespension.co.uk/coaster-micro-swing

https://www.extrememarine.co.uk/extr...k12o7bav30jml1

I'm not suggesting that you should or need to buy a new trailer - but these are typically what a 4M searider would normally sit on. Mine was on the Indespension trailer.

I'd fully agree with Limecc.

For something like an SR4 if it was on a twin axle trailer I'd be removing them and putting a single one under there.

Once you've sold the old axles on EBAY, they are sought after, you'll save the difference in servicing costs in a few years.
Twin axles are a pain unless you really need them.

Nasher.

Just to avoid any further confusion about what an axel is.

How many wheels are we talking about ?
