There used to be a guy on here called Trailer guy who was local, but not seen him post in a while.
He was your man for mobile trailer servicing around here.

Nasher.

This is his website.
https://www.compasstrailers.com/

I thought he was Southampton based, so a little further away in reality.

Unbraked trailer are pretty simple replace bearings, check tyres, check hitch and go...... do it yourself?

Ben at Compass will probably send you the stuff you need and help guide through what to do

Agreed, no brakes to mess around with, or "sealed for life" bearings that need pressing out, so swapping the bearings and checking things on an unbraked trailer should be super easy, if things come apart nicely!

There used to be a guy on here who ran Crosshouse Trailers in Southampton just under the Itchen Bridge, who several members had used successfully. Failing that, presumably any local Indespension or other trailer place will offer basic servicing too.

Whether a job is easy to do or not, is not always the reason why you want someone else to do it.

It depends if you have the time to do it or if you can make more money doing what your doing, than the cost of someone else doing it for you.

When I was working for a living I palmed a lot of work out. Now I'm retired I do most of it myself.

But it probably means in this case jago23 is successful in life and doesn't need to do it himself/herself.

Agreed, but similarly, many people who maybe haven't done some jobs before automatically think "servicing" = hard, must be done by a dedicated professional with lots of fancy equipment, etc., and that isn't often the case.

In addition to the time/money aspect, I think it also depends on whether you enjoy doing/trying things yourself or not - I like to have a go at many things to better understand how they work (even if it does technically "cost" me more than paying someone to do it), but appreciate not everyone wants to do that.

Personally I use both approaches depending on what time I have, given full time living/work in London away from the boat, so not pushing either choice, just suggesting that especially for this job the DIY option is achievable, should one want to do it.

Happy to recommend Ben at Compass Trailers. Our boat and trailer are in Southampton and he services the trailer annually when he's passing. Good value and one less thing to worry about when towing and launching the boat in different places around the UK.

My Son Jasper as a trailer company in Crosshouse road Southampton about 100 yards from Slipway. Imaginatively called Crosshouse boat and trailer centre.

Not Stupid

Your Son Jasper is not stupid then, is he?

The name of the business indicates where it is, a good idea.

Calling it "Mars Boat and Trailer Centre" people would assume it would be too far to go and the chance of stuffing up the wheel bearings with Red dust would be too great.

Sorry, the weather's crap and I have to climb up into the roof space and fix the aircon. A job I don't feel like doing.

The reference to Mars and Roof Space is completely coincidental.

I'm leaving now.
