I got me a new tow car

I purchased a replacement tow car last week. It is a 2008 skoda scout with a 2.0 pd diesel engine with an 6 speed manual box and 116 k miles. It will make towing and recovery a lot easier. It has a haldex awd system which has already proved it self in the snow. The first gear is very short which is good. I started by looking at a Scooby Forrester but in diesel they are very troubled machine. I did not want a Jeep and I could not afford an Audi allroad.

Regards

Tsm

Love the Haldex in my xc90, great system.

Guy in my work had a Skoda with that engine, had 225k on it when he got rid of it and nothing wrong with it. Original clutch still in it!

Good choice Mick. They seem to hold their value too. I have a Škoda Fabia 1.6 diesel as my daily commute and I've been impressed with it over last 50k miles. Oil change every 10k miles and it'll run and run.

If you're considering keeping for a while buy yourself a copy of genuine VCDS software and cable. Only really applicable if you do your own servicing as you can scan for error codes, reset service intervals, prime diesel fuel pump, etc.

I tend to do as much of the work on my car as possible. I agree they are expensive second hand. I purchased mine in northern Ireland Derry. I believe it will suit my needs. It has a few electrical niggles. I could not find a good car in the republic of Ireland that was in my price range and in good condition.

I went ahead and got a 2011 Skoda Scout, its amazing. Really great car and tows brilliantly

Not tried it off road yet, but done plenty of urban and dual carriageway (we don't have many motorways here) miles and its not missed a beat

Great car - I have the 2011 scout and it’s been a great tow car and amazing in snow during the highland winters.

It’s a car that has continued to impress the more I drive it.

Enjoy
