Looks like a neat way to see downtown Chicago without dealing with traffic snarls. But... Sitting on the bow tube while underway ? No anti-exposure suits?

Don't see us sitting on the bow going 40mph. Plus we were in the harbor maybe 20ft from shore with thin ice, not that hard to get to shore. Also the other person on board isn't going to ignore you if you fall in. I am sorry I just don't see it as a risk cawling along at 3mph. What was dangerous was whipping under a small bridge at 30mph but damn was it fun!

Stunning video - had to download some new codecs to get it to work but worth it. Doesn't all that ice damage the hull and tubes???

Reminds me a little of an old video of Jacques Couseteau - his ship the Calypso was stuck in ice and he used the zodiacs to keep circling to stop the ice locking them in.

This is a great free media player and codec pack - plays almost everything - I was just running an older version. Much better than windows media player and a million time better than quicktime and other such nasties!!!

Checked the hull after and it seems to be fine. A lot of scratching but no cracks or sanding past the first layer. It was a lot of fun! Thanks

It's called "Recurring" by the artist Bonobo on his album Days to Come.

Thanks Rogan.

Do you guys ever get to test that boat in rough water conditions or when theres some wind/ground swell? I find surfing ground swells to be one of the most fun about my rib when I'm out in the ocean. Carving down a swell you feel the boat lighten up and pick up speed. Its an awesome feeling.

It must get pretty choppy on the lakes huh?

Sure. I will never forget when we had 13ft waves and carving up them. If you got it just right you could 180 at the top cut the power and surf them down. Awsome!

Thanks! I wish I had more video. Have you seen the wave jumping movie with the Zodiac Futura? I'll dig it up and post it.

Great stuff Rogan! Something I find helps with ice-launches is to start the engine as soon as you get the lower unit in the water, and toss the engine into gear while the boat is still on the trailer. The prop-wash can be directed to bust up the ice around the launch area which makes it a bit easier on the tubes and trailer when you're launching...

I will definitely have to look you up when I am in Chicago next!

Air? Any more altitude and you'd need to contact air traffic control at O'Hare for clearance to land. YeeeeHawwww.

I've launched my Searider a couple of times solo but I think me needs more than my alloy anchor in the bow section cause the takeoff attitude was more like the space shuttle . It may have had a little bit to do with the verticality of the wave but you look like you've got it all going on!!!

I assume the kill cord is gripped firmly in your teeth...

You'd be shocked at how much air you get. In these photo we knew we were getting air borne but not until we looked at the pics did we realize how much.
