A Johnson dealer will be able to order the parts you need. I may be interested in buying it as a spare motor for my F470, so let me know when you find the motor you need.

Today was a great day to be on the water in the NW. I launched at the Ridgefield Marina, and then cruised the Columbia River.

Awesome! Glad it all worked out. Bet it feels good have it going.

Yesterday was great day indeed. Took family out swimming in the Gorge.

I'm looking for your advice. I have found a person who has two 1993 55HP Johnson (Military) outboard motors and he is looking to trade. They are advertised as parts but they run and one has less than 200 hours on it and they are of course long shafts. They are missing tillers and cowls and one has electric start. I'm considering the trade so that I can fix one of them up and get it running. Does this seem like a good idea? Seem like a good deal? How difficult would it be to find a cowl and tiller for these military motors?

Are they IMars with the dewater valve system? Prop or Jet?

Cheers, Squid

tillers and cowls I'm pretty sure standard parts. Pump jet unit if something goes(is) wrong has to be sent to factory or can be replaced with standard prop. I wouldn't count on 200 hrs rather 2000 maybe. Unless there is serious proof. Military doesn't throw staff away just because. They got people to maintain/repair. Only after service life is done it goes out to public.

They're Prop. I have asked if they have dewatering system. I have a photo of a US government hour counter but I can't tell what it says. I think I'm going to go for it as I'm trading both for a $700 value motor. Smalloutboards.com have a mint one for $4600 so getting two that need work seems a decent deal at that trade value. I was just worried that the Army version tiller and cowl would be hard to find.

There's a new old stock 55 tiller handle on Fleabay for 370 or best offer.

Cheers, Squid

Saw that! Thanks! Seller doesn't know if it has a dewater feature. There's a chance its actually only 200 hours on the one motor. They apparently came from Zodiacs that were on the USS Lincoln. We'll see when the trade (hopefully) goes through in a couple of weeks.

There is a chance of course but hour meters are not OEM equipment I believe. I've got one on mine too. It shows 3 hours but it more like 13 in reality. Ask for model number if it's like J55ML... it's military version likely with dewatering valves if not - it's commercial. On the other hand why would that matter. Not planning to lunch it off submarine, are you?

I agree. It doesn't matter. The model number is: E55RWLETB.

Thanks!

No idea myself but I think its a "shift interlock".

"A shift interrupter switch momentarily drops the ignition while shifting to reduce drive train strain and hence ease the shifting process."

Nice one! I would love to join the local 470 team for an outing some time! I just need to get my motor sorted. I am supposed to hear from the guy as soon as he is ready to move the engines. I will still need cowls and tillers and whatever else is wrong with them. What motors are on the rigs in the picture? Looks sweet! Is one of them yours?

F470,

The far boat in the beach pic is mine and the near boat is my friend's. I'm running a 35 hp Evinrude, and my buddy is running a 40 hp Yamaha.

One F470 is great, two 470's is better, and three boats would be AWESOME!

Here is another pic of both of the boats....

F470,

Here is a long shaft motor that could get you out on the water. It's not an etch, but the price is right. I'm still interested in your used short shaft motor, if you are interested in selling it...

How big of a boat are you thinking about? There is currently an 18' Avon 520 on Craigslist in Portland. Will you be looking to sell your F470, if you get a bigger RIB? If so, please let me know because I have a few buddies in the PDX area who are looking for boats.

Here is a "bigger" RIB for you! I saw this at my local boat shop last week.

Yep that's about right size. I wish or not.

18-22. Of course one can buy lot of regular boat for price of decent size used RIB. Pretty sure I would sell my F470.
The only AVON I've seen is 18' CRRC which is not a rib. Is it?
