I hope everyone can stay healthy and safe so we can enjoy the upcoming boating season. Just got a taste of the water with the Hurricane and I can't wait to get some more time working out the kinks.

I don't think we will have a problem staying a meter or two from another person or boat. Really looking forward to getting back on the water now.

So I guess leisure boating (and everything else!) the other side of the channel is out, how long before the restrictions apply here

Good question Fender. I was all for launching in a week or so, but every day brings more news and restrictions. I watched Channel 4 news the other night and they were filming in an Italian hospital in the Cremona region south if Milan with patients as young as 23. Looked absolutely horrendous.

Was moving mine to it’s summer berth today - all put on hold until we get a clearer picture of the implications of the virus, heard rumours that further UK movement restrictions will come into force next week, I guess we play the waiting game

I guess I'm lucky with my RIB living just a few hundred meters away at the end of the road, so no issues in getting to it whilst keeping safe/isolated.

With the recent bad weather, especially at weekends, it hasn't actually moved for a couple of months, but I launched it first thing this morning in beautiful weather, after cleaning all the battery connections. A quick run this morning just to check the various little jobs I'd done to it over the last few months (electrical wiring, new isolator switches, plumbing, various hose clamps replaced, etc) all worked, and it was running perfectly.

Sadly as I walked home for lunch got a call from work in New York, and have been stuck working ever since, so didn't get a chance to take it out again this afternoon in the beautiful sunshine!

I suppose that's payback...

We're in this for the long haul I'm afraid. The government are getting tetchy at the sight of camper vans, just imaging a RIB heading down the M40!

Good excuse for maintenance. Change the bearings on the axle, get the battery on trickle charge, give the tubes a clean and protection.

There will be other days.

Just a heads up The Ministry of Defence have been told to be on standby for complete UK lockdown as of Sunday evening at 6pm... No one is to leave their home's unless you work in Front Line Retail or the NHS...

I heard this directly from my neighbour Trigger who is best friends with a guy called Boycey. Boycey knows a guy named Del who drinks down the pub with his uncle Albert. Albert was in the Navy during the war so knows his stuff.

Nothing wrong with a laugh PD but on a more serious note...

By chance our immediate close family are in the thick of it. One in a Gov microbiology testing lab... another in A&E resource planning... another in a Gov dept related to public safety if further restrictions really get serious... another the first contact coordinator for employees of a large essential service organisation who have or think they have the virus... and for my part I'm nervously responsible for shopping and support for my isolated 89yr old folks in their retirement flat.

All I can say is those folks in their different arenas are involved in preparing for the virus numbers and restrictions to get loads more serious.

Any what comes out of what they do/can tell me is the line Boris and other countries are pushing... breaking the chain of infection... is the only way to minimise this... enable the NHS etc to cope... and eventually long term to get back to normal.

The way to most effectively break the chain in this period is for everyone to stop going everywhere that isn't essential to life... such as for food and medical attention. And even then taking exceptional care on those essential outings.

My wife is working from home (and I mean working with intensive comms/organisation being carried out all day from 6:30am when she fires up the laptop), our at-home daughter isn't leaving the house and I only leave home to shop a week ahead for us and my folks.

If it takes that to keep those around me safe and my 89yr old folks from ending their varied lives in a military tent on a hospital car park with a couple of paracetamol then I'm happy to forgo any "fun" myself for 2020.

On a slightly lighter note if you ever needed a litmus test of how significant this all is... as many will have read McDonalds shut their doors yesterday.... no more drive thru for months... it's that bad.

Yep...

Had a last run out yesterday, a bit surreal to be honest, however it kept us well isolated for the day.
Today, boat washed down and happed up for the foreseeable future. Family working from home but unfortunately I'll not be able to do that. However not complaining, I've still got a job

Hopefully if everyone "screws the nut" things won't get as bad as they are in Italy and as others have hinted the advice will no doubt become law.
It would be difficult to pass off towing the boat as "essential travel".

Anyway...stay in...stay safe...
