Chesapeake Bay RIB folks??

Hi all, I'm in southern Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. I'll be picking up a used APEX A17 Friday and I'm definitely looking forward to the weekend!

Are their any other Chesapeake RIB people on the forum?

Howdy, Lugnut;

I've got a dive buddy couple who have (I think) the 20 footer. Well, actually I suppose the wife has it; she doesn't let him drive - he's only there to do the odd repairs and maintenance.

Ludnut,

Welcome, as a newbie myself, one of the best sites around for RIBs. I am in Yorktown, VA, but very familiar with southern MD and the aerospace industry in that area. I have not seen any RIBs out and about in the lower James or York Rivers, however I know there are some out there as there are a couple of businesses in Virginia Beach specifically for RIBs, they must have customers somewhere. As the scouting of the Chesapeake continues will keep you apprised of the wonders in the area.

Chiefukowi,

Chiefukowi,
That sounds fantastic! I'm putting in at KB Derr marina tomorrow near Solomons Island to take the kids out for some swimming and what not. In few weeks I want to tank up, pack a cooler, and run out for some exploring. Would be great to meet up with fellow RIBbers if possible!

Hey Lugnut,

I'm a newbie to the forum and RIB's and powerboats in general. I'm in Baltimore and currently looking at a 2001 Apex A-19 to use as a photo boat.

I'd love to hear about your purchase of the A-17. I'm feeling kind of clueless about what to look for with a used Apex not to mention current market value - which led me to these forums.

Good to see fellow Chesapeake RIB'ers on my first visit here.

See Ya',

B-more Andy

Three things I really like about the Apex.

1. The console is offset to starboard giving more useable internal space
2. The tubes are 23" as opposed to 20". Sitting in/on them felt better to me (I'm 6'2")
3. Non marking rub rail. When you raft up with friends, you don't leave scuff marks on their hulls.

Let me know if you make it down to Solomons Island area. Be happy to run out with you and let you see how it rides.
