Charter a Protector 28 in the US

I saw a bunch of rather posh twin engine Protectors running around Newport, RI last week, during the NYYC Regatta. They had discrete signage on them: www.supportboats.com . I just looked at the site... For a mere $1000 USD per day, plus $250 for captain, plus fuel, dockage, food and misc expenses, you and four of your friends can putter around your big dollar racing yacht!

To think, I was doing the same in my my 20 year old bargain basement Searider! Well, at least until the 26 year old motor died (again!) and I had to borrow some run down, fat old RIB that handled horribly. Could not tell you what it was. The only thing it had going for it was a bit more beam and interior space than the SR, more room for the two kids and the big dog. And it ran! But I really wanted my RIB back after two days in that beast. I must get the old outboard sorted or get a new one donated.

And I think I need to find a new wife who can support me in the lifestyle in which I would like to become accustomed! One who will ride the captained RIB while I sail the Farr 40 or Swan 60.

RIBs are getting notably more popular around Newport it seems. Not quite as prevelent as I recall on the Solent, but certainly moving in the right direction.

Run out on a Protector 28

I'm just back from San Francisco and had a demo on the Protector 28 and have to say it is a stunning boat, the bay is very choppy with numerous ferry's running about which made it feel like the Sound of Jura when it is in washing machine mode and the Protector went through it like a knife through butter it seriously impressed me. It is now at the top of my want's list.
