It got officially registed a couple of weeks ago with the intention of getting on the water with it soon. The CA DMV wasn't too bad around this time - total of about 45 minutes. Lots of dumb questions asked though: "Do you have a bill of sale?"/Nope, this this emailed receipt. "What state did you buy it?"/Virginia. "So, you have Virginia title?"/Nope, it's never been registered before. "What's the HIN?"/It doesn't have one!

I still don't know if I'm going deal with trying to register the trailer

The goal was to get in the water this holiday weekend. I started calling around on Friday morning looking for hardware for the prop. Needed castle nut, spacer, etc. West Marine carries a generic version of the hardware set made by Sierra - 4 stores in San Diego and none have it. Oh, "but there's one in Newport Beach". A friend was driving south from Los Angeles so I convinced him to stop. Guess what? The computer said they had one but no one could find it. After calls to the 5 local Yamaha dealer (within a 45 minute drive), I found one that had ONE in stock. Went and picked it up, 30 minutes each way... paid full price.

Saturday morning, I put the prop on. I realized it was touching the lower gear case...hmmm. Look closely and the spacer I assumed that I had wasn't there. back on the phone...1 out of the five dealers had it. another 30 minute drive each way for the other spacer since everyone was going to be closed Sunday/Monday.

$90+ later, fitted, tightened, fueled up...ready to go for Monday morning.....it was raining Monday morning. Stayed home.

Tuesday morning, 7A - it runs!

I was pretty happy with the sea trial. It's super fun, quick to plane, turns on a dime, comfy crossing wakes (we didn't make it to the ocean).

13 1/4 x 17 inch prop:
Easy cruise was 23 mph at 2500 rpm
WOT was 43.5 at 4600 rpm
Rated WOT rpm should be 4500-5500 rpm. I need to get a phototach and check the tach accuracy. 4600 rpm WOT seems low to me since there are discussions on here of guys going 19" pitch with the same engine. I bought/picked the 17" thinking this would be a good all around prop. (two up, ~320 lb, 4 gallons fuel, and minimal gear - we were on the light side today). I'm going to do a little more research and see what others have said since this is a very common set up.

A little over 10 miles run, ~2.5 gallons of fuel used. ~4 mpg and we weren't light on the throttle!

I ran those numbers through a prop slip calculator and they don't make any sense. Tach HAS to be off!

Note the piece of junk painted trailer that I had the Avon on. Those wheels are 12" and those tires were maybe 4" wide.....and it was painted.

I found a nice galvanized trailer and figure that whoever bought the Avon would probably be running it in the salt.

I put brand new tires on the 13" wheels on after I got it home from Los Angeles. I made a template of the transom, adjusted the bunks, and bought new hardware where it was needed. Everything fit perfect....except for it had a longer tongue and didn't fit in my garage. Fulton 5,000 lbs swing away coupler to the rescue.

It needs to get back the water soon! Looking forward to seeing how it launches now since there's a longer tongue and it sits lower compared to the last trailer.

EDIT: And it's registered and legal, pink slip in hand!

Fuel system complete. 18 gallon Moeller tank and all of the little parts, fittings, etc. to wrap it up. Supposedly, that Shields hose is the good stuff and I also made sure to order aluminum (black anodized) 90 degree elbows to go into the filter head (since I heard brass and aluminum don't play nice together).

Bit the bullet and bought another prop. Yamaha 13.25 x 17.

Someone else recently had the same issue with the Solas "13 x 17" not getting enough revs (in parentheses since we know it's acting as a higher pitch prop than a 17):

Not as bad as I expected but I will be stuck with the other prop I'll probably only be able sell for $0.50 on the dollar

It's not the boat speed I'm looking for ;it's engine rpm. Boat speed should end up within a mph or two of what I've currently experienced but I have to be sure that operating WOT is between 4500 & 5500 no matter how the boat is loaded. So, if it's just me in the boat, I want to pick a prop that let's me get 5500 rpm at full throttle so that when I have 4 people in the boat and dive gear, I can still make the minimum 4500 rpm at full throttle.

Completely different propeller shapes though both are 13.25" x 17". It will be interesting to see how the new Yamaha propeller goes.

Took the wife out on the Avon this morning on an early coffee run since she hasn't been this boat yet.

New prop WOT 43 mph at 5100 rpm. Gained 400 rpm and max speed remained the the same.

Also, last weekend, updated the trailer lights to LED.
