Wiring up a pump

Hi,
Just wandering if anyone can help.
I have bought an electric pump for the inflatables and have installed a cigarette lighter port on my console to be able to run it off.
When I plug the pump in, it lights up on the LCD display on the pump but when I got to inflate it makes a bit of a noise and then just cuts out.
I have run it from the cigarette lighter in my van and it works perfectly.
I have just been and bought two new batteries for the boat incase it was that but its not.
I have even tried connecting the pump directly to the battery with crocodile clips encase it was the port and it dose the same thing.
Please help.

So when you connect the pump directly to a brand new battery with a pair of crocodile clips it doesn't work?

There is either something wrong with the crocodile clips, the new battery is a dud or there is something wrong with the pump. There is no other possible scenario.

Have you got any photos of the setup?

If you connect it to your van battery with the crocodile clips, does it still work?

Have you got the terminals the right way round?

Hi,
Yes, I connected it straight to the new battery with crocodile clips and it doesn't work.
It trys to run but then just stops straight away.
As far as I'm aware there is nothing wrong with the crocodile clips, battery or pump.
The pump runs fine from my van or my mates boat.
It's just when I try to use the cigarette lighter fitting on my boat or put it directly to the battery it doesn't want to know!

Yes, they are coloured so it's nearly impossible to mess that up.

That just makes no sense at all.

Does it work if you connect it with the croc clips to your van? If so the battery in your boat must be knackered.

This is what I was getting at - if connecting it direct to the van battery makes it work and connecting it direct to the boat battery makes it not work, the variable is the battery.

I'd be tempted to put the boat battery on a smart charger overnight to see if you can breathe some life into it.

Is the boat engine running? The only thing I can think of is some sort of "clever electronics" in the pump shutting down when the voltage drop is too high after the pump starts?
