They are around £150 , they are live radio's that you can connect by loop
they will send URGENCY, SAFETY and Routine calls but not Disstress , as this is deactivated , Excellent for voice training .
We use these and the RD68 and the Simulators .
Mcmurdo are suppliers of Flares EPIRB'S and VHF and as a matter of Interest
Ellen Mcarthur used the F1DSC on her epic round the world journey.
Hope this helps

Thank Jono!! I have made them aware of that but told them that it is up to them to sort that out!!

They are looking at becoming an RTE for sailing and powerboating and shorebased for the SRC cert and First Aid! So that they can actually give the kids a recognised certificate instead of a print off from the PC!!!

So I was asked about what they will need and they are fine on every thing except getting hold on some VHF Simulators!!

Still welcomeing any advice on where to find a set of Simulators

Thank you

Ian J

I could be completely wrong on this as i don't have anything with me i can check but i think the minimum age for a VHF cert is 16. Certainly i wouldn't let this stop you doing it (& my own (8 year) old daughter wants to do hers next year) but you might not be able to get all of them 'proper' certs

No problem in your kids taking the course and examination (if you can call it an examination) but they can only obtain the authority to operate on reaching 16

Thanks for the above info Paul!

The Sea Cadets are looking at becoming A RTE for VHF but they are aware of this and the course is only going to be run for the Kids 16 and over and the Staff whom haven't yet got their cert

The course will then be run for all staff and kids 16 and over in the N Wales District Sea Cadets when they have their training weekend's/Week's here at Pwllheli

Under 16yrs get a certificate of compentency (COC) and not the Authority to Operate (ATO).

I did my VHF when i was 14 (endorsed), when i went to France a couple of years ago and the Harbour Master asked to see my licence, it caused a little confusion, the picture looked nothing like.

Got a new license when i did my SRC Instructor.

Might be worth contacting DGPW on here.

I think he has what you might be looking for.

Hi Ian

We produce simulators here.
Based on either the M601 or the M421.
We have supplied these to a large number of training schools now.

They are modified to allow you to send ALL types of DSC and voice calls.
The only thing you can't do with any Class D simulator is play the part of the CG, you woulod need a Class A set for this function.

We supply them with all the inter-conect leads and power supplies.
They can be piggy backed together to allow a "network" tyoe set up if needed.

There is a big move from both MCA and RYA to get all schools using live radio simulators.
I was informed by Alison Noice (RYA SRC head honcho) a couple of weeks ago that you can set up a school with Live Radio Simulators only or PC Simulators and the PC simulators but not with PC simulators only!

If you need details on pricing please feel free to give me a call.
We supply these direct to RYA schools to keep the cost down as much as we can

Regards
