Hi all

I have a question for you chaps

I have currently an ICOM M501EURO radio and what to change to DSC for two reasons 1) DSC 2) Its not working properly.

So i decided the best thing to do was to get another ICOM as i can then be sure that the hole made for the old radio can be used for the new one, e.g i dont have to mess around. So i went to the local shop who tried to sell me a M601 (same fitting) with a free remote command centre (remote command on a 7.5 meter boat!), however the price is 560 quid

So my question is based on the above, does anyone know if ICOM do a DSC (same fitting or near enought) that does not cost that much?

The ICOM M421 is the only other ICOM radio with built in DSC, I believe. (I'm sure Superradioman will correct me if I'm wrong!) It is cheaper (around £200 ex VAT) but is smaller so may not fit in the hole without the addition of a blanking plate. Here are some details: http://www.yachtinguniverse.com/shop/page13.htm . Not necessarily the cheapest place to buy though - just the first one I found on Google!

Alternatively, the M401 can be upgraded to DSC with a separate controller.
