Hopefully you just needed to work through all the different opinions to make up your own mind. Fwiw I said a lightweight aluminium rib like you've bought would be the best option for your tender duties in post #7 but didn't suggest a 2nd boat then. Hopefully your on your way to having the right setup for all your needs now.
I as a side note I think everyone is interested in the electronics issues in another post, Hopefully your sorting this by pm but I'm sure everyone would be interested to know what's gone on with the digital i'd's not least so we know how to avoid mistaken identity & how the mix up occurred, what piece of equipment triggered the mistaken identity. Hopefully you'll report back once its sorted

GRRRRR my long detailed reply just vanished
JohnB and i have been having a private conversation re the MMSI mix up
It would seem that he sold of lots of bits when he did an electronic upgrade one thing he sold was an ICOM MA-510TR AIS transducer he was told it was wiped clean before bing sold on (to me)
NOW I now know that even a Factory Reset does not delete the MMSI number AND it is NOT user changeable. So I physically installed it on Highland Fling then investigated how I could have it changed to Highland Fling's MMSI number. This can only be done by an ICOM technician with the correct software. Fortuitously one was less than a mile away so he reprogrammed it for me with all Highland Fling's information quickly and at a very reasonable cost.
Now when i was first installing it BUT before it was reprogrammed I was configuring all my Raymarine instruments to interface with this AIS box it is NEMA 2000 and my instrument backbone is SeaTalk NG. I assume that during this time the unit got polled and it responded thereby creating this MMSI confusion
ALL SORTED NOW!!!
