Toughbook

Hi all, anyone out there using a toughbook on their rib/ boat?
As technology is ever changing, can anyone recommend a current particular model that can take the beating from a RIB?

Thanks

Lee

I know it is predictable, but I honestly would not bother with anything other than an iPad.

You can get great covers for them and being solid state they wont be upset by the vibrations, the battery life is also way better than any laptop.

Hi Lee, several of our clients use Panasonic toughbooks when out with us.....I can honestly say that they always seem to be having issues with water ingress......even when they resort to using rolls of gaffa, plastic bags and anything else to hand in an attempt to keep the water out. On Bathymetric surveys last year there were always two along for when the first one failed (i'm not exaggerating). I would love to have a laptop onboard, but it definately couldn't be a toughbook...... I can't comment on any other brands, but we have recently been asked to us an Ipad for a monitoring job (will see how it fares)....another large engineering co. client uses a very cool tablet (yellow and black, don't know make) and that seems okay but IIRC they said it cost £5K ......

We have a tough book that gets out on boats and never had any problems, other than when its really cold it gets a bit slow.

No they're useless. Had five fail and ruined my iPhone!

The only ones that actually work well are the ones Mr. Kennett usually puts a link up to, I'll try and find it later

Try the links below. Otterbox are good at making strong cases but have a look and see if they do waterproof cases.

The other choice is Aquapac they are very good cases. Take mine out on the water all the time and it's survived the water.

Apreciate there are lots of options out there but my two pence worth would be to recommend these guys...

Pelican*Products*i1075*HardBack Case (with iPad insert)

I use an I1015 case for my Iphone and its bloody rugged...to the point that you can literally drive a car over it.
Hundreds of different products to suit nearly every need and they supply to the US military also so it must be pretty good stuff.
