Mostly fixed units in open boats. I think for that, the installation is important because the PL259 connectors and jacks plugged into the back aren't waterproof regardless of what brand you choose and that is more likely to cause you problems than the unit itself.

I haven't had any experience with "Standard Horizon" so won't comment but my latest Cobra was submerged deliberately as soon as I got it when it could have been easily returned if it failed the test. The old one I regularly use is only rated as "Splash Proof" but that's survived in my pocket on three trips to Ireland and visiting almost every inhabited island off the West coast of Scotland, (including Rathlin....).
I'm using a fixed Icom just now because it interfaces with the Icom AIS but I've noticed it doesn't have the "position request/send" functionality the Cobras had. I also have a couple of dead Icoms in the garage that failed the test of time and the Cobras live on.

PS I believe one of the Cobra models has "Bluetooth" connectivity if that floats your boat?

The hh500 and poss the hh600 have Bluetooth, doesn’t make them anymore waterproof.......cobra have a great warranty.....doesn’t help when you are on the water and need it ..... standards aren’t infallible but my experience of cobra HH is they fail far too often for simple water ingress, may not be an issue if you are on a dry boat or put it in a waterproof bag like an aquapac.....common with icoms

Ordered kids don't know what they've bought me for Christmas yet, but saw this deal and thought it was to good to miss.

Think if anyone is looking for a VHF it's worth taking a look.

Got the same deal back in August

Might as well apply for the MMSI number (ships portable licence) now then!
