Not sure what’s available on the market at the moment, but I would only buy Icom or Standard Horizon.

My cobra is really small and works well. Decent range, good battery life, clear sound. And in an emergency if the rechargeable batteries are flat and you don't have a lead or power to hand, you can stick 4x AAA batteries in it.

I fancy an Icom M85E for the size when using attached to life jacket.

Why are you after the smallest?

My priorities would be reliability and ease of use.

I can understand the question - my normal radio is a DSC-enabled Standard Horizon, which I love when combined with a fist mic, but it is pretty big. I keep debating one of the tiny Icom's/Standard's that's just much smaller/easier to carry for when I'm just pottering around the sailing club doing jobs and I don't necessarily need the DSC/GPS functionality.
