Small Vhf

Possibly a stupid question but are VHF radios a standard width?

I was in a Chandlers this morning and noticed a Cobra (not sure of the model) that looked quite small, are there any other smallish VHFs?

I am after buying a VHF but don't want anything to big....quite like the Standard Horizon GX1500E and seen one on-line for £108 does anyone have or use one and can comment on?

Cheers guys

If space is a huge issue, you can take a Standard Horizon fixed mount and put it somewhere remote, and externally mount a RAM+ mic which will let you control all the functions of the VHF. Get a little more expensive, but will save a lot of console real estate.

jky

p.s. Don't know if other manufacturers have anything similar.

Be aware that if you want to fit an Icom 4** series fixed VHF, to use the flush mount kit you need clear access to both sides of it to do up the lock nuts.

My Icom 411 doesn't seem to big. To flush mount you need a cut out of 149mm X 62mm. The face of the radio is 164mm X 78mm.

If rooms a problem you could always side mount like Tomd
