Did I miss something... I tried out the free demo a week or so ago. As far as I could work out all that you can do with this is VIEW the charts (OK only demos at present) but the s/w has no navigational functionality at all???

Not sure why I'd want to buy additional copies of charts just to look at them

They're out now...

I know I'm a bit late on this, but the Navionics electronic charts on iTunes are out now.
The free viewer gives you a chance to see all new features to the App, like taking geo-tagged pictures and sending them by email, and you can do the same with tracks and routes.

Have you had a chance to check them out?

iphone nav

Best money ever spent.
If its planning a trip around a table, wondering where you are on a european crossing or you just want a backup to your paper charts (which you should still have aboard) then this little application is top class.
Costs a little, but if you buy apple and like your iphone, it is not a big stretch.

My advice...... go for it.

Same here. I have written at length on this one on YBW (where they are all afraid of things that are not paper and rubber boats are all trendy tenders )

I have down loaded this app and is very good. Only thing is when we are at sea the chart does not seem to follow the boat, i.e chart stays still and does not follow the boat. Is there a setting I need to look for?

Graphics info etc fantastic.

Cheers

Jon

Hi Jon, I think you need to click on the GPS button then it will move the chart to suit.

Jon, did it work activating the gps button? I usually am prompted to activate GPS when I start recording a TRACK. Have you tried doing that?

Did anyone get any further on this, can it be used to show your position/track etc on the chart?

Would like to use it as a back-up device.
There are 2 Navionic apps in the App-store one allmost double priced, which one is the best for 'our' region and what is the difference between them?

And the most important questions:
Do I need seperate maps?
Can you navigate with it?
Does it connect to the internet while navigating?
Does one have any experience?

Look on I Tunes and it shows you a map of the area covered in one of the screen shots - the UK and Holland seems to cover some of France and Denmark as well? I had it on my Android Phone and will probably get it for the Iphone as well - great App with all of the tide information built in and lots of other features and all of the detail of a paper chart.

It shows the same chart in the screen shots regardless of the chart you choose.

@Cookee: I did do that.
The UK & Holland app is 10,4 MB and € 19,99
The Europe app is 14 MB and € 9,99

Could it be that de UK & Holland map has more detail and therefore costs more eventhough less MB's?
Which one do you use?

In Itunes scroll to the right!

Can't explain the price difference - I had UK + Holland as the Europe chart doesn't cover UK!

Cheers for that, didn't realise it had a scrolly thing.

Installed the 'Navionics UK & Holland' map and it does work perfectly.
Two things though, the app uses a lot of data on the internet; I have a limit of 1 GB, so I must be carefull. And secondly srolling through the map is very slow on the iPhone 4.

That was yesterday with the maps of Holland, the Belgian coast, and most part of the UK downloaded, so a rather big map.
Today de-installed the entire app and started all over again, but only the map of Holland, the Belgian coast and a small part of the UK coast (Dover etc.).
And now it's a lot faster and works fine.
I wonder what it does with the usage of the internet data now that it's all installed and ready to use.
Someone any experience?
