Marine Instruments-EBay

Should have known better but I have just been ripped off big time!! Ordered a Hummingbird Fishfinder 2X and a Uniden Marine Radio for £188.90 from a guy called Gordon BUNDAY who trades as "Regencywholesalers(dot)com on EBay. After he took my money I discovered that he is importing the items from The States. It took well over 6 weeks for the items to arrive and when they did I had to pay nearly £60.00 Duty/Vat and Handling Charges before Parcelforce would let me have them. The Radio is practically useless as it only tunes in to American/Canadian Channels? Our Gordon refuses to re-imburse me, I reported him to EBay who suspended him from trading only for him to open up the following day as "Regency Sells" selling exactly the same items! The matter is now in the hands of Trading Standards wont hold my breath waiting for them to act! Apparently there are others trading in this way on auction sites so be warned

It's a pity that some of the honest traders will be regarded as "dodgy" like this shark. There are what look like much better deals on Ebay for Icom and Raymarine VHFs as well as occasional Garmin GPSs.

Thanks for the warning.

Hi

If you can't get your maney back, try to contact Uniden. I bet there is a way to shift from USA channels to International. It might be something that will need some service. But on most radios you can shift it by holding down one or two keys while you turn on the radio.

Anyway thanks for the warning.

Rene

Small Claims Court

I had a similar problem (long boring story) but I solved it extremely quickly by advising the company that I would take them to the "Small Claims Court"(SCC). They laughed at me.

I approached the "Citizens Advice Bureau" who gave me a SCC form to complete which, I did. I included my £10.00 fee and within 4 weeks received a cheque from the company for the full amount plus my tenner.

It's a simple procedure, basically you write an essay on your position and why you feel aggrieved, the court actually sit in session and hear your complaint and pass judgement in the absence of either you or the people you are claiming against (I think that's how it works anyway).

Give it a go or at least threaten him with this action, if he laughes, do as I did, get the bas***d.

as Rene said there should be someway to switching from us to int. We have a number of US radios including a Uniden hand held and none are a problem. If it won't switch over I'll be very suprised but even then there is not a lot of significant difference between the two. After all transatlantic american sailors to need to be able to communicatewhen they get this side of the pond. We have left ours on US channels on purpose on occasion as there are a couple that serve nicely as private channels but ch16 etc are still ok

Hi,

Most sets can be rechipped for euro channels. The cost though may be a factor !.

Best wishes,

Stuart
