Fish finder for diving

I am considering getting a new ft. I use my fish finder mostly for scuba and free diving site selection. Real world advice wanted from fellow ribnetters

What’s wrong with your old ft? Are you going metric[emoji848]?
I’ve had Lowrance & Raymarine, I prefer Lowrance for ease of use & clarity. Lowrance/Simrad/B&G are all the same kit in different boxes, all Navico. All use Navionics which is my electronic chart of choice. Some good deals on Lowrance HDS gen3 at the mo.

Been using ( and upgrading ) Lowrance for many years and been mostly happy with them for fishing, scuba and freediving. I must admit if I was to upgrade again anytime soon I would be closely looking at how Garmin compares with its live view and ease of use. I've seen some Garmin live view where you can actually see a diver with tanks clearly moving.

I know Lowrance ( simrad ) has this same tec, as does hummingbird. Unfortunately I've personally found hummingbird to be far less intuitive with its menus ( yes I've owned them ).

My Lowrance is an older hds mk3 which performs well enough enen out in depths of 500m with a standard 200-50khz transducer. My sidescan transducer is fixed directly to the hull directly in front of the outboard rather than using the bracket.

These are a few shallow water screen shots ( depth in metres ) from my hds. The red circles show clusters of small baitfish, I don't have a screen shot of fish reveal which was part of a recent update. Fish reveal is a mix of bot the sidescan and traditional transducer which I find very good at separating bigger predators from smaller bait species.

What I like about this forum is how thankful some are after others go out of their way to try and help out. No wonder so few contribute.
